Hulk Hogan's back in the ring
But now, the Chevy Camaro and the Dodge Challenger are back, and the Mustang now has some serious competition. Last year, the Ford seemed to be in trouble, as the Camaro SS packed 426 horses and the Challenger R/T bolted out 375 horses, while the Mustang GT had only 315.

But like Hulk Hogan lying on the canvas in pain, moments before being pinned in defeat, the 2011 Mustang slowly rises, shaking its head, pointing the finger at the Dodge and the Chevrolet, and gains back the momentum. Three solid punches, an Irish whip, a boot to the face and—what all Ford fans are waiting for—the Atomic Leg Drop that finishes the Camaro and Challenger. The Mustang GT—and the V6 model as well—are better than ever and have nothing to fear against their rivals.

The GT model in particular, with its 412 horsepower and $38,499 base price, is so good that spending $58,999 for a Shelby GT500 seems like a waste. Then again, no other production car offers 550 horsepower for under $60K.

Spending a week with the GT500 is thrilling, except when it’s time to fuel up. When you’re behind the wheel, you feel like you’re half as strong as Hulk Hogan, which isn’t bad at all. I guess there’s nothing wrong with being a real American.
