Building on Porsche’s sports car tradition
For Laurance Yap, the addition of the Boxster Spyder confirms the strong commitment by Porsche to keep developing "genuine" sports cars.
"We’re responding to all those critics who blasted the launch of a Porsche SUV and four-door sedan, arguing that these models would compromise the essence of the Porsche brand," he said. "The Boxster Spyder shows that, even with an SUV and a luxury sedan in the lineup, Porsche can still make genuine sports cars!"
Mr. Yap claims that the automaker will build no more than 700 copies of the Spyder on a yearly basis, which would represent about 10 to 15 percent of total Boxster production. In Canada, the car will be even more exclusive, with only 44 units coming our way.
The 2011 Porsche Boxster Spyder starts at $72,900.
