With a reported 21-percent fuel economy gain over the current 4-cylinder LaCrosse, the 2012 version with eAssist will start at $35,415 before taxes, freight and delivery charges when it hits dealerships later this summer.

eAssist is basically a system composed of an electric motor-generator and a lithium-ion battery pack that, as its name suggests, assists the 2.4L combustion engine under heavy loads like acceleration. It can be considered as a ‘mild’ hybrid propulsion system.
On the highway, the LaCrosse with eAssist is said to consume just 5.4 L/100 km.
For the 2012 model year, there will be 3 powertrains offered in the LaCrosse: the base 2.4-litre four, the same engine with eAssist as well as a 303-horsepower, 3.6-litre V6.
