The all-new 1.6-litre EcoBoost I-4 engine will be available on the C-MAX. This high-efficiency, low CO2 engine was developed to be used globally.

Just like others in the global Ford EcoBoost family, it combines high pressure direct injection, turbocharging and twin independent variable cam timing to achieve 20% better fuel consumption than conventional engines.

The base engine is a capable 2.5-litre iVCT I-4 that is optimized for small crossover use with plenty of low end torque.

Both of these engines will be complemented by Ford’s 6F35 six speed automatic transmission.

The C-MAX will include great new technologies and features that will improve safety and functionality.

Frank Davis describes a few features as ‘clever’ and I would have to agree.
The second row of seats has an interesting trait: the middle seat section folds quickly and easily and then completely tucks away underneath the right hand seat cushion.

This fantastic idea is an innovative walk-through seating concept that allows easy access to the rear. It also permits passengers to get into the third row of seats without having to move potential child or booster seats.
Other technologies and features such as SYNC connectivity, MyFord Touch driver connect technology, active park assist, rear view camera, front and rear parking aid sensors and navigation will also be available.

The second row of seats slide back and also recline. This gives passengers a decent amount of legroom and added comfort. When the smaller centre seat is linked to the right hand seat, the pair recline and slide together.

Both the second and third row of seats fold flat into the floor and give you ample space for storage.

As Frank introduces a hands-free lift-gate, an industry first, I think to myself: “Why has no one thought of this sooner? I love it!” He walks up to the back of the car and lifts one leg (a leg motion below the center of the rear bumper triggers sensors that unlock and raise the liftgate). Voila - the tailgate opens up all by itself! I can only imagine how wonderful this will be when your hands are full of groceries.

The Mazda5 is Mazda’s number two selling vehicle and for good reason.

These compact multi-activity vehicles are incredibly useful for growing families, especially those living in cities where space and parking is limited.
Ford’s C-Max will bring some competition to this segment.

I am looking forward to taking this C-MAX for a test drive later next year and finding out if Ford was able to give this practical vehicle as much attention to the drive as it has to its functionality.
