Ford of Canada announced its new electric car, the 2012 Ford Focus Electric, will have a sticker price of $41,199 before destination and delivery charges ($1,500) as well as applicable taxes.

There is only the one trim level and only three options: leather seating with 6-way power seat for $1,000; a cargo management system for $125; and tri-coat paint for $300 (in either White Platinum Metallic or Blue Candy Tinted Metallic).

Standard equipment includes exclusive 17-inch wheels, a 60/40-split rear bench and a high-end audio system. Ford said a similarly equipped 5-door hatch, with automatic transmission, would retail for about $30,000.

Also included in the purchase price is a 5-year subscription to the MyFord Mobile app, which allows owners to remotely control charging, find charging stations as well as monitor many aspects of the vehicle’s operation and state of charge. Not included in the price is a home charging station.

The company also announced that starting December 15, 2011, visitors to the Ford.ca website will be able to register themselves as “hand raisers” — potential Ford Focus Electric customers who would like Ford to contact them with more information about the vehicle and its availability.

US buyers in the California and New York/New Jersey markets were able to place orders for Focus Electric in November, and only through special Certified Electric Vehicle Dealers.

In calendar year 2012, Ford Focus Electric will expand to another 15 launch markets, as production ramps up at the Michigan assembly plant, which makes both gas and electric versions of the Focus. Canadian-market Focus Electric models will be available “sometime in the spring.”

Unlike the US, where Ford Focus Electric will be first deployed in select, urban markets, Ford of Canada is inviting all its dealers to apply for EV sales and service status.

Potential customers in Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia could take advantage of provincial rebates for electric vehicles. Because of its large battery size, the Ford Focus Electric is eligible for the maximum rebate amounts in all those jurisdictions ($8,500 in Ontario, $8,000 in Quebec, and $5,000 in B.C.).
