Completely redesigned and decidedly sportier-looking, the all-new 2012 Ford Focus is the product of ''One Ford,'' the Blue Oval's global car design strategy. It will arrive in showrooms next spring.

The Focus will offer two different body styles, namely a four-door sedan and a five-door hatchback, both motivated by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder engine generating 160 horsepower and 146 pounds-foot of torque.

Compared with some of its closest competitors, including the Honda Civic DX-G, Mazda3 GS and Toyota Corolla CE with Convenience Package, the 2012 Ford Focus SE is priced in the middle of the pack. Only the Mazda3 costs more, while the Civic barely undercuts its MSRP.

The entry-level Focus S will start at $15,999 and feature a standard five-speed manual gearbox, climate control, power door locks, power front windows, keyless entry, 15-inch steel wheels and a four-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 stereo. Regardless of the trim level, the available six-speed, dual-clutch PowerShift transmission will require an extra $1,250.

Next is the aforementioned SE model, likely to become the best-selling Focus in Canada. Starting at $18,999 for the sedan at $19,899 for the hatchback, it will add body-coloured mirrors and door handles, power rear windows, MyKey, 16-inch steel wheels and steering wheel-mounted audio controls. The five-door variant will also offer a 60/40 split-folding rear seat along with a spoiler and wiper in the back.

Then comes the Focus SEL ($21,499 for the sedan, $22,399 for the hatchback). Additional features will include 16-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a blacked-out grille and a 60/40 split-folding rear seat.

Topping the line is the Focus Titanium. Aside from a standard PowerShift transmission, this model will stand out with a sport-tuned suspension, 17-inch alloys, a 10-speaker Sony sound system with subwoofer, SIRIUS satellite radio and MyFord Touch with 8-inch touchscreen. The sedan and hatchback will be priced at $24,499 and $25,099, respectively.
