Over in Europe, the A4 sedan and wagon will be receiving a few updates, the first significant ones since its 2009 model-year redesign. These changes will likely be applied to the 2013 edition of the US and Canadian models.
The A4 as well as the sportier S4 get a restyled front end that includes the bumper, the grille, the headlights, the fog lamps and the hood. The car’s taillights now incorporate optional LED strips, while the rear bumper and air diffuser have also been reworked.
Inside, the A4 boasts new steering wheels with redesigned column stalks, interior colour combinations have been re-coordinated, while the MMI infotainment system will be controlled by only four buttons. Audi also claims improvements have been made to the operation of the automatic transmission, the heated seats, the air conditioning and the Audi drive select system.
Across the pond, the A4 offers a choice of 6 turbodiesel engines, although we get none of them. Newly introduced is a smaller gas engine called the 1.8 TFSI; it produces 168 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque and is said to consume just 5.6L/100km in the A4. For now, it is unclear whether the 1.8 TFSI will be offered in the US and Canada.
