Wagons are always better
The new F30 BMW 3-Series is a knockout punch. Stretch the roofline, add a hatch, call it a wagon and by God, you’ve got my attention. Unfortunately, I’m an oddball.

Station wagons are the bastion of European brands. The Americans and the Japanese long ago abandoned the art of making station wagons, however, Audi, Volkswagen, Renault and many others, including BMW, have not. And hopefully, never will.

The 2013 BMW 3-Series Touring sacrifices nothing as 97 mm have been added to the car’s overall length. In the process, the wheelbase has grown 50 mm and trunk space has increased 35 litres to 495.

If trunk volume is not an issue, but access and versatility are more of a concern, the 2013 BMW 3-Series Touring’s got you covered. The rear bench offers a 40:20:40 split/fold seatback, perfect for fitting narrow and wide objects. As well, the automatic tailgate with separate rear window opening gives the user plenty of options for hauling oddly shaped gear.

The 2013 BMW 3-Series Touring will be available in numerous trim levels and with the excellent BMW TwinPower Turbo 240hp 2.0L 4-cylinder engine. Other features will include Auto Start-Stop and ECO PRO mode technologies and an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Other mechanical aspects, each responsible for making BMWs some of the best driving cars in the world include a sport suspension with enhanced ride comfort, electric power steering and various M Sport options. The latter have yet to be confirmed for Canada, but my fingers are crossed.

The 2013 BMW 3-Series Touring is expected in dealerships next spring.
