The quest for fuel efficiency is missing a few players, including the Ford Shelby GT500, which will receive an even larger, more fearsome V8 engine for 2013.
Contrary to some past rumours suggesting that the mighty Mustang could undergo the EcoBoost treatment, new information indicate that Ford will instead boost displacement from 5.4 to 5.8 litres and keep the supercharger.
This adds further credibility to our August 18 report in which we told you that the Shelby GT500 would go from 550 to 620 horsepower.
Photos and videos that show Ford engineers testing the car on the track reveal that braking performance is improved with the addition of cross-drilled discs in the back. Downforce will be superior as well.
Look for the new 2013 Ford Mustang and Shelby GT500 to make their debut either at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November or at Detroit's NAIAS in January.
