* Note: This preview does not include the 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid or the Accord Plug-in Hybrid.

Pros: After 37 years on the market, the award-winning Honda Accord is one of the most mature and sensible sedans (or coupes) you can buy. It's also very comfortable and quiet. Designers recently simplified the dashboard and made the various controls more user-friendly.

Cons: Instead of a 6-speed automatic transmission, Honda mated the base 4-cylinder engine to a CVT in the 2014 Honda Accord, which is great for fuel economy, but may not please a ton of drivers, especially not their ears. Styling remains a bit generic, and the one-piece rear seatback lacks a split feature.

2014 Honda Accord Price: The sedan comes in six different trim levels, from the base LX ($23,990) to the luxurious Touring V6 ($35,400). The coupe offers three models, ranging from EX ($26,400) to EX-L V6 NAVI ($35,500).

2014 Honda Accord Fuel Economy: A 4-cylinder Honda Accord will burn an average of 7.4L/100km with the manual transmission or 6.7L/100km with the CVT. Meanwhile, a V6-powered model increases those numbers to 9.5L/100km (manual) and around 8.0L/100km (automatic).

Improvements and Changes: The big news with the Accord in 2014 is the introduction of hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants (reviewed separately).

2014 Honda Accord Powertrain: The direct-injected 2.4L 4-cylinder i-VTEC engine under the hood produces 185 horsepower (189 in Sport trim) through a 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT. The alternative is a 3.5L V6 engine with Variable Cylinder Management that generates 278 horsepower by way of a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox. Both engines use Honda's efficiency-focused Earth Dreams technology, which works alongside Eco Assist and ECON mode to enhance fuel economy.

All models are front-wheel drive.

Cargo Capacity: The 2014 Honda Accord sedan's trunk can hold 439 or 447 litres of cargo depending on the trim level. Meanwhile, the coupe offers up to 379 litres of room for your luggage.

Safety: The 2014 Honda Accord cares a lot about occupant protection, with ABS, brake assist, vehicle stability assist with traction control, hill-start assist, a rearview camera, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and forward collision warning. Some of these features are optional, mind you.

Comparing the 2014 Honda Accord: The midsize segment also includes the Chevrolet Malibu, Chrysler 200, Dodge Avenger, Ford Fusion, Hyundai Sonata, Kia Optima, Mazda6, Nissan Altima, Subaru Legacy, Toyota Camry, and Volkswagen Passat.
