Pros: A reliable powertrain, high resale value, an accommodating interior with room for five and a surprising amount of cargo (thanks to the 60/40 split second-row Magic Seat), excellent forward visibility, fun and effortless driving dynamics, easy ingress and egress, as well as a sharp-looking exterior (particularly in Sport trim) make the 2014 Honda Fit an attractive hatchback.

Cons: Long-legged drivers will feel cramped inside this sub-compact car. What's more, the ride is a bit choppy, real-world fuel economy is not as advertized, the engine becomes noisy when pushed, and soundproofing could be improved.

2014 Honda Fit Price: Three trim levels appear on the menu: DX at $14,635, LX at $17,095, and Sport at $18,995. Standard equipment with the base Fit includes a 160-watt AM/FM/CD audio system with MP3/auxiliary input jack, power windows and mirrors, a tilt-adjustable and telescopic steering column, a maintenance minder, and 15'' steel wheels.

2014 Honda Fit Fuel Economy: The official ratings for an automatic Honda Fit are 7.1L/100km in the city and 5.4L/100km on the highway. With the manual version, only the second number changes (5.7L/100km).

Improvements and Changes: None. It's the final model year before the launch of the third-generation Honda Fit this summer.

Powertrain: The Fit makes good use of a 1.5L 4-cylinder i-VTEC engine that produces 117 horsepower and 106 lb-ft of torque through a standard 5-speed manual transmission or an optional 5-speed automatic transmission.

Cargo Capacity: The 2014 Honda Fit's cargo area provides 585 litres of luggage space (1,622 with the rear seats folded). You'll also find concealed storage under the rear seats, front door-pocket storage bins, a two-tier glove box, and no fewer than 10 cup holders.

Safety: Honda's Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure is designed to help disperse frontal impact energy and increase occupant protection, and six airbags line the cabin. To prevent accidents from happening in the first place, the Fit relies on Vehicle Stability Assist, as well as front disc brakes and rear drum brakes with ABS and electronic brake force distribution.

Comparing the 2014 Honda Fit: Several other sub-compact cars are available on the Canadian market including the Ford Fiesta, Chevrolet Sonic, Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio, Mazda2, Mitsubishi Mirage, Nissan Versa, and Toyota Yaris.
