Pros: The BMW 5 Series offers the perfect combination of luxurious style and space, with the driving performance of a vehicle smaller in size. There are also a host of engines to choose from. 

Cons: While it is a good looking sedan, it is about five years old and hasn’t been revamped like other Series at BMW. So, you might say it looks “old.” 

2015 BMW 5 Series Price and Fuel Economy: There are quite a few versions of the 2015 BMW 5 Series to choose from. From gas to diesel, and even a wagon-type model called the Gran Turismo. And as each model features either a different engine or drivetrain, the combined fuel economy numbers differ across the board, however, they are not available yet for the 2015 5 Series Gran Turismo models.

Powertrain: There are five different powertrains across the 5 Series lineup. In the 528i sits a fabulous 4-cylinder TwinPower Turbocharged mill that produces 241 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Next in line is BMW’s inline 6-cylinder engine in the 535i models that produces an even 300 horsepower and toque. And the most powerful engine provided in the 5 Series lineup is an 8-cylinder TwinPower turbocharged unit equipped in the 550i models that produces 445 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. 

In the 2015 BMW ActiveHybrid5 you’ll find a BMW EfficientDynamics mill that utilizes a TwinPower Turbocharged engine coupled with a 40 kW electric motor. This means that not only does this 5 Series produce 300 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque, but that you can also drive in full electric mode up to 60km/hr. Energy is captured via brake energy regeneration. 

Finally, the BMW 535d uses a diesel-powered TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder engine that produces 255 horsepower and a fantastic 413 lb-ft of torque. Zero to 100km/hr is done in just 5.7 seconds. 

All 5 Series models feature an 8-speed automatic transmission. Of note, the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo was the first to feature this new 8-speed in the model lineup. 

Where xDrive is indicated in the name, BMW’s all-wheel drive system is present. If not, power is sent to the rear wheels. 

Changes and Improvements: No major changes or improvements were made to the BMW 5 Series lineup for 2015. 

Cargo Capacity: Across the board, the 2015 BMW 5 Series model offer up seating for five. Cargo spaces changes depending on which model is selected. 5 Series sedans feature approximately 396 litres of trunk space, whereas the ActiveHybrid model only has 283 litres. And in the 5 Series Gran Turismo that cargo space increases to 439 litres. 

Safety: The 2015 BMW 5 Series lineup is equipped with all manner of safety equipment and standard airbags, as well as available active cruise control, BMW Head-Up Display, Night Vision, park assistant (for assisted parallel parking), and all-around cameras and Park Distance Control.
