Trying its best

Pros: The Tundra offers a non-American truck option to those looking for something a little different. Plus, you get the added peace of mind that you’re driving a Toyota.

Cons: Toyota’s not known for its trucks, so this is not its shining star in the lineup, and it shows.

2015 Toyota Tundra Price and Fuel Economy: Since there are 11 different Tundra models, let’s break them down in terms of cab size for pricing before we talk about fuel numbers.

Regular Cab

  • 2015 Tundra 4x2 SR Long Bed 5.7L $27,225
  • 2015 Tundra 4x4 SR Long Bed 5.7L $31,485

  • 2015 Tundra 4x4 SR 4.6L $35,485
  • 2015 Tundra 4x4 SR 5.7L $37,310
  • 2015 Tundra 4x4 SR5 Long Bed 5.7L $39,175

CrewMax

  • 2015 Tundra 4x4 Limited 5.7L $49,705
  • 2015 Tundra 4x4 Platinum 5.7L $54,805
  • 2015 Tundra 4x4 Platinum 5.7L 1794 Edition $55,120

Throughout the lineup, there are two engines available. If you opt for the 5.7L you’ll see fuel economy numbers in the 17.2L/100km in the city, 12.8L/100km on the highway. Go for the smaller 4.6L mill and you’re looking at 15.9L/100km in the city and 12.3L/100km on the highway.

Changes and Improvements: For the 2015 model year, the Toyota Tundra will not be available in SR5 Plus trim. Alternatively, Toyota has introduced a new TRD Pro option package that elevates the Tundra’s off-road capabilities, and is a step above the basic TRD package. It’s available only on the Double Cab 4x4 SR5 or CrewMax with the shorter bed.

Powertrain: As mentioned above, the 2015 Toyota Tundra is available with two engine options. The smaller, 4.6L i-FORCE 8-cylinder is good for 310 horsepower and 327 lb-ft of torque. The larger 5.7L 8-cylinder engine pushes out 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque.

Both are controlled via a 6-speed Super ECT (Electronically Controlled Transmission) automatic with sequential shift mode. Both 4x2 and 4x4 setups are available across the board, depending on which trim you choose to go with.

Cargo Capacity: Since there are a few different cab and bed sizes as well as drivetrains, the towing capacities and payloads are as follows:

4x2

  • 6,800-10,500 towing
  • 1,410-1,895 payload

4x4 Regular Cab

  • 10,196 towing
  • 1,835 payload

4x4 Double Cab

  • 6,493-9,800 towing
  • 1,320-1,430 payload

4x4 CrewMax

  • 9,490-9,800 towing
  • 1,225-1,330 payload

Safety: The 2015 Toyota Tundre is equipped with the STAR Safety System that includes Vehicle Stability Control, TRAC, ABS, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist, and Smart Stop Technology, along with all standard airbags, along with child seat tethers front and back.

Comparing the 2015 Toyota Tundra: Nissan Titan, Ford F-150, GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Silverado.
