Gorgeous, luxurious, and fabulous to drive

Pros: The BMW 6 Series coupe and convertible are for drivers seeking two-door style in a high-end package that's a bit more extravagant than the norm. They offer a range of six- and eight-cylinder engines with a unique sense of exclusivity and style.

Cons: Choosing between the Gran Coupe, Coupe and Convertible could cause some serious headaches as they are all equally stunning to look at and drive. Oh, and the backseat is rather small.

Price and Fuel Economy: As mentioned, there are three body styles to choose from. Pricing for the 4-door Gran Coupe starts at $89,900 and moves up to $99,500 for the 2-door Coupe. Opt for the Cabriolet, and you’re looking at a base price of $110,500 – certainly not cheap.

As for fuel economy, the 650i xDrive Coupe is rated at approximately 14.4L/100km in the city and 9.9L/100km on the highway. Both the Cabriolet and Gran Coupe achieve 15.2L/100km and 9.8L/100km, respectively, in 650i xDrive trim. Expect 12.1L/100km and 8.1L/100km with the base 640i xDrive models.

Powertrain: Let’s start with the 3.0L inline 6-cylinder engine, which produces 315 horsepower and, more importantly, 332 lb-ft of torque from just 1,300 rpm. Want more? The optional 4.4L V8 develops 445 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque, enough to sprint from 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds – terrific.

Power is sent to all four wheels through BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system. The 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission adapts to suit individual driving styles, and offers three drive modes (Comfort, Eco Pro, Sport). Featuring Launch Control, it is perfect for everything from comfortable cruising to a very dynamic drive.

Changes & Improvements: Revised front and rear fascias including newly standard LED headlights with restyled elements; redesigned exterior mirrors; newly standard sport exhaust system.

Cargo Capacity: As there are three body styles, there are three trunk capacities. In the Cabriolet, you’ll find about 311 litres. In the Coupe that changes to 368 litres, and in the Gran Coupe you’re looking at 460 litres thanks to the practical hatchback-like design.

Safety: The new 6 Series is equipped with all manner of standard safety features and airbags including available BMW Night Vision, surround-view cameras, as well as BWM Head-Up Display.

Direct Competitors: Audi A5/A7, Porsche Panamera, Mercedes-Benz CLS
