The all-new 2016 Chevrolet Volt has been named “Green Car of the Year” for the second time. It also received Green Car Journal’s award in 2010.

This year the Volt beat the Audi A3 e-tron, Honda Civic, Hyundai Sonata, and Toyota Prius. The announcement was made at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The Green Car of the Year award is determined by an 11-member panel, and is based on fuel efficiency, EPA and CARB certifications, performance, and affordability. Other criteria include availability and accessibility.

The second-generation Chevy Volt delivers a pure EV driving range of up to 85 kilometres, while a new 1.5L range extender pushes total range to about 1,600 kilometres.

“A visually appealing design, increased five-passenger seating, and an array of on-board electronics combine with the Volt’s inherent efficiencies to make the 2016 Chevrolet Volt a real winner,” said Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal and CarsOfChange.com.
