Chevrolet unveiled its new 2016 Silverado 1500 at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas last week. More athletic than ever, the big Silverado will offer many new features including an updated Chevrolet MyLink interface (optional) with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability.

CarPlay projects select iPhone apps and features (iPhone 5 and later) on the MyLink display in a smart, simple manner – allowing drivers to make calls, send and receive messages, and listen to music from the touchscreen or by voice via Siri.

Aesthetically, the new Silverado impresses with sharp LED lighting, wraparound turn signals and brake lights, an aggressively style front grille, and more. LT and LTZ Silverados feature chrome grille elements and bumpers, while Z71 models have a monochromatic appearance. The Silverado High Country features chrome horizontal bars, grille inserts and skid plates, set off by body-coloured bumpers.

Under the hood is a selection of three engines, all equipped with Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation) to improve fuel economy when full power is not required. They are:

  • 4.3L V6 rated at 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque (standard);
  • 5.3L V8 rated at 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque (the most fuel-efficient V8 in any pickup);
  • 6.2L V8 rated at 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque (allowing a towing capacity of 5,443kg or 12,000lbs).

Une nouvelle boîte automatique à 8 rapports sera aussi offerte de série pour les Silverado 1500 2016 munis du moteur 6,2 litres, de même que sur les modèles LTZ, LTZ/Z71 et High Country dotés du V8 5,3 litres.
For 2016, the new 8-speed automatic transmission that is standard on 6.2L Silverados will be standard on LTZ, LTZ/Z71, and High Country models with the 5.3L V8.

Safety highlights include Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist, IntelliBeam high-beam assist. Buyers can select options such as a remote-locking tailgate, wireless phone charging, power-articulating running boards, and more.
