The rumour has been circulating on the net for several weeks now, and according to the Financial Times, Daimler will ask Aston Martin to build the next Maybach.

Obviously, both automakers were loath to comment and have given very little information on the subject. Such a partnership between the two luxury automobile giants would allow Aston Martin to benefit from Daimler’s engine technology and Maybach to get rid of the old S-Class platform.

Both companies worked together in the past to create the Lagonda Concept, which probably won’t go down in history. However, the Maybach is an interesting and extremely exclusive platform, powered as it is by a 543-hp, V12 engine and absolutely dripping with luxury. Should the rumours prove to be true, we might see some great results indeed.
