Helping the community
Be that as it may, CCARQ officials have nonetheless managed to organize a show as welcoming as it is exciting. It’s a well-known fact that the people of Quebec are crazy about cars. And the automotive industry has an undeniable impact on this large region. Liliane Laverdière, president of the Quebec Chamber of Commerce, convincingly illustrated this fact in a speech delivered during the show’s opening ceremony, reminding us that the industry employs 4,300 people and represents an 180,000-dollar payroll. What’s more, 63,000 new vehicles and 30,000 used models are sold each year, while dealer sales figures reach 2 billion dollars. Finally, the Quebec Auto Show alone generates 1 billion dollars in direct economic benefits.
That’s why the CCARQ is deeply involved in community support programs. The CCARQ donated funds again this year to two social welfare bodies that help people in need. Nearly $150,000 ($111,250 of which was raised directly by the CCARQ) has been donated to the Fondation Maurice Tanguay, helping families with ill or handicapped children, and the Fondation Mobilis, recently founded by the CCARQ to help individuals with mobility-related needs.
