Mazda announced yesterday the inclusion of a Special Edition model to their MX-5 lineup, intended to offer a sense of uniqueness and exclusivity to potential buyers of the most successful roadster of all time.
Expected to arrive with a price around $37,400, the MX-5 Special Edition treatment will be applied to the Power Retractable Hardtop (PRHT) model with a limited production of just 105 units. The PRHT model boasts enhanced noise reduction and insulation from the elements compared to the standard model by way of a composite top which retracts in a few seconds at the touch of a button. Included are a new Icy Blue paint color, chrome accenting and grille surround, and unique 17" wheels. Dynamic stability control is also fitted alongside a limited slip differential to ensure power from the MX-5's 170 horsepower engine make it to the pavement unscathed. A six-speed manual transmission is standard.
Inside, owners will find a luxurious looking interior trimmed in brown saddle leather with blue stitching. Chrome and metallic accenting works inside to help further the Special Edition's upper scale look. The first units are expected to be produced next month. Photos: Mazda
