Press release
Source: Chevrolet(Germany) What better way to celebrate the best up and coming creative minds in Europe than to get one of Europe's most progressive fashion labels to create a unique car concept to champion all that is good about style and design.
Mischa Woeste of Smeilinener was commissioned by Chevrolet to take its all-new Spark mini car and use the body and interior as a canvas to showcase the bold design that Smeilinener is recognized for. "Like the best models, the Spark has the looks and the confidence to wear daring designs," said Mischa Woeste of Smeilinener. "What an experience to dress up a car and its occupants! I enjoyed the fusion of design worlds that I entered when I applied my fashion design and materials to the expressive Spark," Mischa added. Taking inspiration from her S/S 2010 collection unveiled at Berlin Fashion Week, Mischa took key design elements and applied them to the car's interior and exterior. A statement flamingo which was a feature of the collection graces the driver's door with its head nudging towards the front headlamp. Dragons, fish and butterflies adorn the bodywork whereas the roof progresses to African tribal motives via climbing foliage – all in the recognizable color palette of neons and brights as seen in the Vive La Fete Collection. However, it's inside that Mischa has really let her creativity flow, morphing color, texture and design hues to create a cocoon-like interior for those inside. A sea of orange denim literally encases the interior, with openings for the heads of all five passengers and the steering wheel. Around these openings, Mischa has hand-stitched embroidered elements and high-quality fabrics and prints from her collection, so no matter who gets in, they appear dressed head to toe in Smeilinener. "For mini cars, which are increasingly popular, style is a key factor of success. Mischa Woeste from Smeilinener ignited a 'Spark of Fashion' for Chevrolet today. Her beautiful designs and ornaments highlight what Spark is about: fun, fashion and functionality," said Wayne Brannon, President and Managing Director, Chevrolet Europe. Chevrolet invited Mischa to apply her design skills to the Spark to celebrate its 'Young Creative Chevrolet' program. Mischa's Spark took centre stage tonight (October 29, 2009) as Chevrolet handed out the top awards in this pan-European contest aimed at recognizing and rewarding the creativity and vision of students from applied arts schools. Both the Chevrolet Spark and the S/S 2010 Smeilinener Vive La Fete Collection launch across Europe in early 2010. The beauty of Spark means that it looks like a sporty three door but with the rear door handles hidden away, offers the practicality of five doors. Its compact size and fun, edgy design means it is perfect for city life. Pricing of the Spark will be announced closer to launch.
