Mazda announced that its MX-5 roadster is about to make history once again. With 900,000 units sold since April 1989, the iconic Japanese will retain its title of "Best-selling two-seat sports car" in the Guinness Book of World Records.

The love affair between consumers and the MX-5, formerly known as Miata, continues strong nearly 22 years after its original launch.

The car was first certified by Guinness when it reached 531,890 units in May 2000. The record was updated when production passed 700,000 and, later, 800,000 units.
