This year will be a big one for Mercedes-Benz in Detroit: on top of the three BlueZero concepts and the production version of the 2010 Class E, the automaker will be presenting what will probably turn out to be the highlight of the show.
Following the end of Roadster SLR's production next May, the assembly plant will be reorganized for a last time for the new incarnation of the SLR, the Stirling Moss Edition speedster. Only 75 units of the new SLR Stirling Moss will be built, featuring an utterly original look reminiscent of the famous 1955 SLR 300. The SLR 300 celebrated victory after victory, leaving its mark on the prestigious races of the day such as the Mille Miglia. Over 50 years later, British driver Stirling Moss still holds the record on that track: 10 hours, 7 minutes and 48 seconds. To mark the end of their partnership and the SLR project, Mercedes-Benz and McLaren boosted the output of the final version of the V8 to 650 ponies that can make the 0 to 100-km/h dash in just 3.5 seconds. Unfortunately, Mercedes-Benz has two big surprises for us: the sales price is set at 750,000 Euros and the company wants to thank the original buyers of the SLR Coupe, Roadster and 722 by giving them the exclusive purchasing rights to the Stirling Moss.
