Saab is turning the spotlight on the all-new 2012 9-3 with the promise of improved performance, looks and efficiency.

Buyers will have a choice of two 2.0L engines featuring direct injection and variable valve timing. The first one generates 163 horsepower, while the second gets a twin-scroll turbocharger that boosts output to 220 horsepower. It's also available with Saab's Cross-Wheel Drive (XWD) technology.

Fuel economy is said to be improved by 4 percent as a result.

Outside, the new 9-3 sports the same signature grille and ''ice block'' headlight effect as its larger sibling. It also comes standard with fog lights and 16-inch wheels. Aero and XWD models get 17-inch alloys, while Sport models add a decklid spoiler.

The interior is enhanced by titanium metallic trim pieces around the instrument panel, console, doors and glove box. Grey fabric inserts now highlight the standard leatherette seats. Aero models feature new leather sports seats with contrasting stitching inspired from the Aero X concept car.
