Who said the Hybrid is dead? Even if the Prius is going through hard times, the trend of the hybrid powertrain remains very strong. Like the Lexus LS600hL and BMW ActiveHybrid 7 (do all these names need to be such a mouthful?) before it, the A8 hybrid is aimed at those wanting to feel big in their britches without making a big negative impact on the environment. Big difference here is that it uses a 4-cylinder engine and not a V8!

Apparently, Audi thought the standard R8's 4.2 liter engine was a good start. This 420 horsepower V8 is a screamer, and it gets the aluminum coupe rolling in a very serious hurry. It's more than powerful enough for anyone who values their driver's license-- but apparently, some nut-jobs wanted even more sauce.

Pictures are floating around on the web and by the looks of the wheels, this bronze example would be fitted with the incredible 525 hp 5.2L V10. We expect that the mighty V10, which will most likely be joined by the lesser 420 hp 4.2L V8, will be mated to either a 6-speed manual or the semi-automatic R-tronic gearbox, with Quattro of course!

The A4 with Quattro is a bit of a surprise in the Audi line up. First off, it comes in four variations. The introductory model is your choice of either a sedan or station wagon. Audi refers to the wagon version as an "Avant". Power comes from a 2.0 litre direct injected and turbocharged gasoline engine. At the upper end, the sedan and Avant models come with a 3.2 litre direct injected V-6.
