When I first heard that yours truly was the chosen one to attend the Dodge Challenger launch in New York City I could hardly retain myself. After all, there has been so much hype about the new muscle car from Dodge, and the thought of driving it in the Big Apple, a city that I had not yet visited, just added to the excitement. I packed my bags several days earlier, as if that would make the days go faster, and although I was told to be at the airport 2 hours prior to the flight I was actually there 3 hours ahead of schedule.

PG&E and SCE to contribute to the development and testing of the i MiEV electric vehicle

Pacific Gas and Electric Company and Southern California Edison will use Mitsubishi's zero-emissions i MiEV electric car for research and demonstration purposes. The Japanese car manufacturer plans to integrate the small sedan into the fleets of both American public service providers during the last quarter of 2008 in order to conduct additional road tests. The vehicle in question has actually already passed preliminary tests with seven public service providers in Japan.

Escalade hybrid nears launch

It could be the biggest oxymoron in the car business: the Escalade Hybrid. The folks at GM are gearing up to launch the machine this month, claiming a 50 percent increase in fuel economy during city driving for a relatively small price premium over the standard model. The Escalade hybrid boasts high-class styling and amenities riding atop GM's advanced Two-Mode hybrid technology, which it co-developed with BMW and Chrysler.

Last Mini Convertible rolls off the line

After 164,000 units sold, the MINI Convertible has reached the end of its life cycle. A successful run saw the popular model selling the most units in Great Britain and Ireland, followed by the USA, Germany, Italy and Japan. MINI says that twice as many people drive the convertible model in Scandinavia than in Greece- which is much warmer. Austria sees at least five times as many MINI convertible drivers as sunny Portugal as well.

The Chevrolet Aveo5 revamped for 2009

In a bid to make it more attractive, General Motors has decided to modify its line of subcompact cars for 2009. The Pontiac Wave has been remodelled and is now known as the G3 Wave. And Chevrolet is following suit with its twin sister, the Aveo5.

Saab 9-3 Range offers more entertainment value for 2009

Saab's 9-3 model range will add new standard content for 2009, while maintaining 2008 price levels, GM says. The Scandinavian brand offers the 9-3 in a Sport Sedan, SportCombi (wagon) or Convertible configuration, each available in standard "2.0t" or performance upgraded "Aero" specifications. A five-speed automatic, six-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission is available, depending on the model selected.

Luxury automaker Lexus has announced the upcoming presentation of two very special models at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance Lexus Fashion Preview to celebrate their ongoing partnership with the Pebble Beach Company. An LS600h L sedan and SC430 convertible will be unveiled in "Pebble Beach Edition" trim, after which point just 500 and 300 will be produced for sale, respectively.

4-Cylinder Highlander coming this winter

In addition to the standard 3.5 litre V6 and Hybrid Synergy Drive equipped Highlander models, Toyota has announced the addition of a new four-cylinder engine to the options list of their popular mid-sized SUV. A 2.7 litre unit, the new powerplant will generate 187 horsepower and 186 lb.-ft of torque while burning regular fuel

Once, about a half-century ago, British cars were seen all across the globe. England's auto industry was famous in the '50s and '60s for producing attractive small vehicles and sports cars. In fact, many of us have enjoyed countless Sunday rides on the back seat of an Austin A40, a MINI or a Sunbeam. Others used to travel in a Ford Anglia or Cortina.

Cadillac unveils the CTS Sport Wagon and the 2010 SRX

Cadillac will present the new 2010 SRX and a family version of the CTS, the Sport Wagon, at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California. Launched in 2004, the SRX has been completely redesigned for 2010. General Motors is releasing the first images of the SUV today. The new SRX is based on the Provoq concept, presented at the Detroit Auto Show in 2008. It will be assembled on the Theta platform, namely used by the Suzuki XL7 and the Saturn Vue. However, the platform had to be slightly modified, its dimensions increased, in order to accommodate the 2010 SRX.

In a joint venture, Lotus and Jaguar are developing a new engine called Omnivore

The Lotus engineering division is currently designing a new biofuel engine. The British manufacturer has teamed up with Jaguar and Queen's University, who will help with every step of the development process. The two-stroke, one-cylinder engine, dubbed Omnivore, will be able to run with different types of fuel that are less damaging to the environment.

All car enthusiasts remember the Chevrolet El Camino, produced in 1959 and 1960 and again in 1964 and 1987. For those of you not familiar with the name, know that the El Camino is a crossover vehicle, halfway between a car and a pickup truck. Production of this vehicle stopped in 1987. However, General Motors has decided to bring the El Camino back to life. To do this, they took the Holden Commodore's chassis, a vehicle sold in Australia and known here as the Pontiac G8, widened its wheelbase and replaced the rear seats by a cargo box.

These days, manufacturers are striving to produce fuel-efficient vehicles. To do this, they develop engines that consume less energy by using new technologies like direct injection or even hybrid systems. Certain manufacturers, such as Lotus, are more concerned by the weight of the car. A light vehicle is indeed easier to move; its engine isn't called upon as much and it consumes less fuel.

Aston Martin revealed the first image of its future standard bearer last week. The One-77 coupe is the legendary British manufacturer's first creation since it was sold to a group of investors lead by Prodrive's Dave Richards. The One-77 concept is the most extreme Aston Martin ever designed.
