2010 Dodge Journey First Impressions
Tuesday, March 09, 2010
Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci, Quebec -- The Dodge Journey crossover enters 2010 with no radical changes, which is a good thing because it currently outsells every other midsize SUV/CUV in Canada. Of course, you probably know by now that "crossover" is just a euphemism for a modern minivan. The ironic thing is that the Journey actually replaced a minivan, namely the short-wheelbase Dodge Caravan!

2010 Volkswagen Touareg TDI Review
Monday, February 22, 2010
Being average is not good enough; at some point in time, it may have been but nowadays, it certainly won't get you passed the auditions for American Idol. The car business is pretty much the same; if you can't impress Simon Cowell, you're staying home or in this case, you're not leaving the showroom floor.

2010 Lincoln MKT AWD EcoBoost Review
Sunday, February 28, 2010
The Lincoln MKT is anything but ordinary. Its profile is unique, its grille spectacular, its finish remarkable and its size, well, a little excessive. But in the EcoBoost version, the MKT's truly distinguishing feature is slumbering under the hood. This is the review of a big vehicle that almost succeeds in passing for a small one.

The Drool Factor
Monday, February 15, 2010
Sometimes I see a manufacturer's newest offering and I feel they went too far in trying to be original (so many concepts resemble space vehicles!) Other times, I am unimpressed by how unoriginal it is. I think it is a growing concern for many auto enthusiasts-- what else can they do without repeating themselves or being utterly ridiculous?

2010 Toyota 4Runner Limited Review
Friday, February 05, 2010
There it is, just sitting there, quiet, smug but with impressive potential and a stance that gives onlookers a hint at what this behemoth is capable of. The 2010 4Runner has roots that run deep in the off-road and overland explorer's history. I'll venture a guess that if you are reading this review, you know what a Land Cruiser is, what it can do and what it has done. There are clear and present family ties between the two.

Car Camaraderie
Monday, February 01, 2010
The other day, on my daily commute to the office, I pulled up to an amber light. As I slowed down a complete stop, a black Mercedes pulled up beside me on the left side. The stranger, a handsome dark-haired man, gave me a warm smile and lifted two fingers off of his steering wheel in a friendly little "Car Wave." I smiled back and raised my fingers in response. He motioned to my car, "Zippy" a black Nissan Cube, and nodded approvingly. The light changed. The stranger moved forward to turn left and I carried on to work. I felt a little different after the unexpected encounter. "Zippy" seemed to have acquired a little extra "Zip" if you will. I guess you could say we both had a little extra spring in our step.

2010 Honda Pilot EX Review
Tuesday, February 02, 2010
Honda's line-up can seem ironic sometimes. On one end, the Fit subcompact maximizes interior space in a small package. On the other end, the Pilot SUV is big inside and out, but manages to feel like a much smaller vehicle.

2010 Nissan Murano LE DVD AWD Review
Wednesday, January 27, 2010
I will be moving shortly and I figured that the Holidays would be a great time, as my wife and I are off, to get a head start (never to be repeated...). The plan was to load up the Murano with odds and sods such as a couple of TV sets and some boxes containing my precious car magazines from the late 80s and 90s and drop them off at my parents (St-Pierre Storage Inc. as I call it).

2011 Kia Sorento EX-V6 First Impressions
Friday, January 22, 2010
West Point, Georgia -- Well here we are in America's deep south, ready to sample some local fare. It's not fried chicken. It's not pecan pie. It's not sweet tea. It's the all-new 2011 Kia Sorento. This new Sorento is the first vehicle to be produced at Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia (KMMG), a new $1 billion facility, which has the capacity to build 300,000 vehicles a year.

Southern Hospitality
Monday, January 25, 2010
To be completely frank, I was excited to come to Georgia to see the shiny new Kia plant that is manufacturing the 2011 Sorento-- Georgia itself was incidental. The tour of KMMG was awesome-- yellow robotic arms working in a poetic rhythm with errant sparks flying into the cluster of automotive journalists who gazed on with childlike wonder (well at least this journalist felt like a 7 year old on a class field-trip!). It was truly a sight to behold. But there was something else going on in that factory, and honestly, I know I will not and cannot do it justice with my words.

Defending the Aztek
Saturday, February 06, 2010
When I handed in my text on the decade's top 10, my colleagues made fun of me. Mind you, it wasn't the first time, nor will it be the last. And often it's for the same reason: I included the Pontiac Aztek in my selection. Before you driving enthusiasts start booing and throwing stones, allow me to defend my choice, this misunderstood vehicle.

2010 Lexus RX 450h Review
Friday, January 01, 2010
What if you or I had to choose just one vehicle? What if we lived in a communist regime and all citizens were entitled to a singular vehicle, a real people's car? Consider the implications and concessions you would have to make if such a "rule" was imposed on your daily lives. Other than voting for the alternative party during the next elections, what would you do?

2010 Honda Pilot Touring Review
Thursday, January 14, 2010
Need to transport up to eight occupants but can't stomach the 'v' word? (That's 'v,' as in van. Of course if it were the other 'v' word, you may not need to transport eight!). Minivans offer a space/usage ratio that's impossible to beat. Unfortunately, these plebian workhorses of the modern family fail to deliver on the recreational front with the same resourcefulness of a four-wheel-drive SUV.

When I picked up the 2010 BMW X6 M, I sent out a tweet (@RobRothwell) asking rhetorically, "can an SUV have too much power?" After all, 555 horsepower could probably speed up one of Germany's high-speed ICE trains.
