Quick interview with Don Romano, President of Mazda Canada

After 6 consecutive years of record sales, are you confident for a seventh one in 2007?

Donald Romano, President of Mazda Canada
Yes, because with the new CX-9, which will be on sale in two weeks, we're entering a new vehicle category. Our sales record last year was obtained despite a vehicle shortage; we had problems supplying dealers, but that should be resolved now.

Will Mazda get a hybrid version of the Tribute like the Ford Escape?

No. The Tribute will be on sale in three weeks, but it won't get a hybrid version because we won't be able get enough powertrains.

What's next for Mazda?

New 3 and 6 models should appear in 2008 as 2009 models.

Are you planning to enter the subcompact market soon?

There is a new model in Europe called the Mazda2, but we believe that the car just isn't zoom-zoom enough for Mazda Canada. If and when we decide to introduce a subcompact here, we will make sure that it fits with the rest of Mazda's lineup.

Mazda2 has plenty of zoom-zoom
With gas prices over $1/liter and the Mazda2 1.5 using 4.8L/100km, I think the Canadian consumer would find it has plenty of zoom-zoom for the cost.

Mr. Romano, I hope you will reconsider, and then persuade Mazda USA to bring it to the States.

My Mazda Sucks! - 1 response
I'm sorry to bring you bad news but my Mazda sucks! I bought a brand new top of the range, (or so I was told only to find out that it was missing features that we had paid for), Mazda Tribute 2008 inApril 2007 from our local dealer. I have had nothing but trouble with it from the start, constantly breaking down, causing near miss accidents (engine cuts out on the highway at 100km per hour,) I've been told it is safe to drive onnerous occassions only to find that it isn't, my ABS has failed twice! I've had a noise problem for 20 months which I kept being told its my imagination and it's just the tires only to be vindicated when eventually someone actually took me seriously for a moment and found that I had a lose left link that had been vibrating for all those months, the customer care that I have received has been nil, both from my dealership and Mazda Canada.
Now if one or maybe even two things had gone wrong then maybe I could put it down to just, never mind, but repeatedly my discs, ABS, the noise, lack of safety care, locks failing to release, rear left tire forever needing air pressure adjusted (which ever tire is rotated on it), the list just goes on. I was really sold a lemon and Mazda have failed to do anything about it.
So I think it is only fair that I let everyone and anyone know of the way that I have been treated, that the warranty on a Mazda car is not worth the paper it is written on, Mazda are only interested in getting your cash, and to hell with the safety of your vehicle. Well I had another near miss on Saturday, when my ABS failed again and took out my brake system too. I was driving up a hill, with snow on the road and a large truck behind me, luckily I managed to get the car into the curbside and avoid the truck rear ending me, but what happens when I am not so lucky, my family will be left without their mother and wife, perhaps Mazda will onyl listen and give me the justice that I deserve when I am dead from an accident and it is splashed all over the media.
I have all the reports which show that nothing is wrong, only to be found out by other garages that there is, and I also have all the correspondence which I have sent to Mazda and their one letter which they sent to me, at a completely different address than where I live, it was even in a different town, so good one for your credibility there, that really inspires confidence. I have no confidence in my car, I paid $35,500 cash for it, I worry if I have to go out in it, and I worry even more if our daughter has to drive it. If anyone would like a copy of the correspondence that I have sent or the reports, please post a comment with your details and I'll send them to you.
Be careful when buying a Mazda, you don't get what you think. I have bought Mazda in the past, hence buying one this time, but I shall never ake that mistake again!

Re: My Mazda Sucks!
Did you know that your Tribute is in fact a Ford? It is a rebadged Ford Escape. I have owned two Mazdas (real ones) and have been completely satisfied with them. I am pretty sure that many of the problems you are experiencing a due to the fact that it is a Ford.
