Mercedes-Benz F-CELL Roadster Concept

Saying that the young designers and engineers of Daimler AG at the Sindelfingen Mercedes-Benz plant are imaginative would be quite an understatement.

This project incorporated key expertise and knowledge throughout the development process.

For about a year, more than 150 trainees and dual education system students worked on a one-of-a-kind concept that may just be the complete opposite of the German brand's latest prototypes.

This project incorporated key expertise and knowledge throughout the development process. It involved junior employees from the fields of automotive mechatronics, model-building, electronics, coating technology, manufacturing mechanics, product design and interior appointments. Hence, the F-CELL Roadster Concept was born.

The participants had the opportunity to work on a project that integrates the topic of alternative drive systems into creative training with hands-on experience.

According to Human Resources Board member and Labor Relations Manager Günther Fleig, the prime objective of the project was to demonstrate that the topic of sustainable mobility has become an integral part of the vocational training at Mercedes-Benz.

Daimler AG executives, including Mr. Fleig, are delighted to see how much initiative and creativity the young people have put into the F-CELL Roadster project.

Tradition meets the future
The vehicle's design inspiration combines the past and future of Mercedes-Benz. As an allusion to the Benz Patent Motor Car from 1886 (which sparked the first mobility revolution in the history of mankind), the vehicle is fitted with four large spoked wheels. In fact, both models share another similarity: they produce zero emissions.

Meanwhile, what can be described as the bodywork is inspired from the company's Formula One race cars. The nose is actually reminiscent of the SLR Stirling Moss speedster.
