Rumours are currently rife regarding Volkswagen and whether the manufacturer plans a big surprise during the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show. A number of automotive news sites including Breezecar and Green Car Reports have reported in recent weeks that the carmaker is likely to announce the pending arrival of an electric version of the Beetle. This follows the unveiling at the recent Paris car show of Volkswagen’s I.D. concept car built on the new MEB (Modularer Elecktrobaukasten) platform, which could offer a maximum range of between 400 and 600 km.

Other industry watchers, meanwhile, suspect that rather than present an electric Beetle, the company will announce an increase in maximum range for the already-existing Volkswagen Golf electric car. This would allow the car to compete on even terms with the highly anticipated Chevrolet Bolt EV and the upcoming Tesla Model 3.

We await the opening of the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 18 to learn more about Volkswagen’s electrification strategy for its roster of vehicles.
