Porsche revealed some details today about the most recent addition to its range of hybrid vehicles, highlighting the importance of the Porsche Intelligent Performance philosophy for the brands future with the all-new Panamera S Hybrid.

The car will be equipped with the same system currently motivating the Cayenne S Hybrid, that is to say a 3.0-litre, 333-hp, supercharged V6 working hand in hand with a 47-hp electric mill powered by a metal hydride battery. The latter uses the energy produced during braking to recharge itself.

The Panamera will pump out a total of 380 ponies, dispatched to the wheels by an 8-speed autobox that will allowing it to leap from 0 to 100 km/h in six seconds en route to top speeds of 270 km/h.

Porsche estimates fuel consumption at 6.5L / 100 km with the help of low rolling resistance tires. Standard tires will bump up fuel consumption to 7.1 L / 100 km. The car should produce just 167 g of CO2 per kilometre.

Porsche says the Panamera S Hybrid can travel about two kilometres in electric mode only at speeds of up to 85 km/h. At higher speeds, a touring function kicks in, disengaging and cutting the gas engine up to 165 km/h in the interest of fuel efficiency.

Equipment-wise, the car will count on, among other things, an adaptive air suspension system and Servotronic speed-sensitive power steering. As is the case with most hybrids, a display will inform drivers of the hybrid system’s status.

For $108,700, Canadians will be able to drive a Panamera S Hybrid home sometime in 2011.
