The Kia Borrego FCEV (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle) has just made its grand entrance at the Los Angeles Auto Show. It features a slew of innovative features, such as a fuel cell capable of delivering 154 hp, a 450-volt supercapacitor producing 134 additional horsepower as well as a conventional, 147-hp engine.

The Kia Borrego FCEV offers an impressive 685-km operating range courtesy of its hydrogen tanks totalling 202 litres at a pressure of 70 MPa. What's more, the Korean manufacturer's vehicle has the capacity to start at very low temperatures, definitely a bonus in our climate.

Its drive train is centrally located under the floor pan and can nudge the Borrego along at a top speed of 160 km/h. The vehicle weighs no less than 2,250 kg, nearly 5,000 lbs, despite its aluminum body components. Not surprising, then, that accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h takes 12.8 seconds. However, the Borrego really stands out in terms of fuel efficiency: it can maintain a combined average of 4.36 litres per 100 kilometres.
