The Mercedes-Benz SL won’t be unveiled until later this year, but the German manufacturer has given us a glimpse of the changes that will transform an interesting car into the ultimate luxury machine.

Thanks to a body that’s 89% aluminum, the Mercedes-Benz SL 350 and SL 500 have shed 309 and 275 lbs respectively compared to the current models, ensuring optimal performance, stiffness and safety.

Also noteworthy is the corrosion prevention process these Mercedes have been put through, which will help preserve their value and appearance over the years.

The automaker also claims the SL will be the quietest machine in its class, which means Mercedes found a way to compensate for one of the main disadvantages of aluminum compared to steel (read: elevated noise levels).

The next-gen Mercedes-Benz SL will also feature the world’s first adaptive windshield washing system combining wipe and wash functions as well as the FrontBass sound system that places the subwoofers in the front footwells to produce crisp bass notes.
