One of the trendsetters in the electric car industry, Chinese automaker BYD Co. has backed away from plans to mass produce electric cars by the middle of 2010 in its home country.

Detroit, Michigan -- In its third year at the NAIAS, China's BYD made quite a resounding statement. According to Henry Li, General Manager, Vehicle Export, BYD will become the number one automaker in its domestic market by 2015 and across the globe by 2025!

Chinese automaker BYD Auto announced this week the large-scale commercial launch of its F3DM compact hybrid sedan in September. With its very long operating range in electric mode, the car had raised a lot of interest at the Detroit Auto Show last January.

Detroit - For a fourth consecutive year, Chinese cars were on exhibit at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). BYD and Brilliance showed ten vehicles or so, including a prototype. And this year again, the message was the same: We are coming! Only, we don't when yet.

Chinese automaker BYD, which stands for 'Build Your Dreams', has just presented what they claim as the world's first mass-produced plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. Sales actually began last month in China, and the company is planning to offer the car in North America in 2011. Powered by a 102-hp electric motor, the F3DM can travel up to 100 km on battery power. After that, a 1.0-litre gasoline engine kicks in to replenish the battery pack.
