2012 Mitsubishi Lancer SE AWC Review
Sunday, March 25, 2012
For those who don't yet know it, the Mitsubishi Lancer's nemesis is the Subaru Impreza. The rally-bred Lancer Ralliart and Impreza WRX are constantly compared to each other, as are the Evolution and the STI.

Would you trade in for the same car?
Thursday, January 05, 2012
My ride for this week is a 2012 Mitsubishi Lancer sedan, a car that has been virtually unchanged since its redesign in 2007. Back then, I summed up my 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer ES review by praising its aggressive looks and solid feel.

2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR Review (video)
Sunday, December 25, 2011
Are you a cold-blooded Canadian that gets excited at the thought of low-traction driving conditions? Do you have a pulse, testosterone in your veins, and love excitement? Would you rather rip donuts in the shopping mall parking lot after hours than actually shop there?

2011 Mitsubishi Lancer SE Review
Thursday, December 15, 2011
Living in a small town, I'll occasionally run into one of those lost characters of my youth; stuck-in-a-time-warp examples of arrested development in stone-washed denim and high top kicks. A black Soundgarden tee, edgy and youthful on a still-hip 27-year-old, looks faded and delusional two decades later.

2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR Review
Tuesday, November 22, 2011
I felt like a traitor all week. As my Java Black Pearl '04 Subaru WRX sat sadly in my driveway and I pulled away in the 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer EVO GSR tester that was mine for the week, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt.

After tolling the bell for the Lancer Evolution earlier this year, Mitsubishi backtracked on its controversial decision and will continue to offer the car... as a hybrid!

Thursday, August 11, 2011

2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart Review
Thursday, April 07, 2011
The 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart is a real impostor. It looks like a typical Lancer and retails for a cheap price - basically, an ordinary sports sedan. But once you step behind the wheel, watch out: this thing handles almost like an Evo.

Mitsubishi to kill EVO
Thursday, March 03, 2011
Oh boy! Mitsubishi sure is serious about streamlining its product lineup. After announcing that the Galant, Eclipse and Endeavor will be phased out, the company now plans to kill the EVO.

2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart Review
Tuesday, February 22, 2011
The last time I actually drove the base model Lancer was last year when my girlfriend was shopping for a new car. She knew she wanted a four door, practical sedan, that was it - we test drove the Honda Civic, Mazda3, Ford Focus and Mitsubishi Lancer.

2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution vs 2011 Subaru WRX STI (video)
Thursday, December 02, 2010
Honk if these two cars make you horn--I mean get you excited and conjure up scenes from the Safari or Monte Carlo rallies or any great rallying event from the late 90s and early 2000s. Yes, these two cars certainly are war machines from their respective manufacturers and both have created and sustained rival followings for the better part of the last two decades.

2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback GTS Review
Monday, November 01, 2010
There are still few Mitsubishi dealers across the country, as least compared to Mazda or Honda's dealer network. So for now, the Lancer can't come close to the Mazda3 and the Civic in terms of sales.

If you've been following me on Twitter (@Matt_St_Pierre) and or Auto123.com (@auto123), you know what we did last summer... yesterday, sorry. Yes, we took a 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer EVO and a 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI to Mécaglisse, a great track north of Montreal.

Arcade or Simulation? That choice is often presented to gamers on their favourite xBox and Playstation racing titles before the selected race loads. The choice will give aspiring drivers either instant gratification and pre-programmed fun, or a learning-intensive but potentially more rewarding racing experience.

2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback Preview
Saturday, December 05, 2009
Lancer's new-generation platform arrived in 2007, exclusively in the 4-door sedan configuration. A five-door hatch model based on this platform, called Sportback, took a couple of more years to get here; 2010 is only its second model year. Unlike the sedan, Sportback is only available in the upper trim levels -- GTS ($24,098) and Ralliart ($33,698).

2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart Review
Tuesday, February 09, 2010
Not just a stronger and sticker version of the basic Lancer, the Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart is truly a baby EVO. In fact, the Ralliart trumps the globally renowned Lancer Evolution in several ways - notably usability and price.

2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback GTS Review
Friday, December 18, 2009
The return of the hatch is cause for celebration. When a brand like BMW dares to give us a hatchback luxury model, the 5 Series GT to be precise, and promises to bring it to North America (even to the U.S., I swear!), you know that the hatch is back!

2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback Ralliart Review
Friday, October 30, 2009
The rivalry between Mitsubishi and Subaru has just been taken to the next level. Mitsubishi has always favoured sedans while Subaru threw its lot in with hatchbacks. Subaru always retaliated to whatever the competition threw its way, but Mitsubishi was a bit slower to do so. This year, the automaker is falling in step with the others and is now offering an upscale version of the hatchback.

2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback Review
Tuesday, October 20, 2009
At the top of every list, there has to be something different. With Mitsubishi, what is at the top depends on where you look. If you are performance oriented (what an understatement!), that would be the Lancer Evo. If you are family oriented and need a bit of extra cargo space that a sedan doesn't have, the top of the pile is the new Lancer Sportback GTS. GTS is the carry over designation form the regular Lancer where just about everything is standard. Sportback comes the same way.

The 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution RS arrives in Canada
Friday, April 24, 2009
Mitsubishi Motors Sales of Canada announced pricing for the 2009 Lancer Evolution RS. Available at $39,998, this model becomes the most affordable Evo but deprives owners of features that aren't really necessary in a pure performance car.

2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback First Impressions
Friday, April 24, 2009
Mont-Tremblant, PQ - Canadians like hatchbacks. The time is right for Mitsubishi for reintroduce the Lancer Sportback, but this time, it's different from the pseudo-wagon model that wasn't quite popular during the Lancer's previous generation.

2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Review
Friday, March 20, 2009
The "Evo" for short comes in three different levels of fast. My ride for the week used a six-speed twin clutch Sportronic (tm) automatic and enough
adjustability so that I could tailor the car to the road conditions and the
way I felt at the moment.

2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart Review
Monday, March 02, 2009
The Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart is a compromise car. With half the sportiness of the mighty Evolution and half the friendly urban dynamics of the base Lancer, it offers a pleasant driving experience in all conditions. Yet, the Ralliart still has what it takes to compete against other sporty compacts like the all-wheel drive Subaru Impreza WRX and the front-wheel drive Mazdaspeed3.

2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR Review
Saturday, January 03, 2009
The drive to work in winter when the weather's nasty is about as exciting as having wet feet. Road closures. Ice scraping. The mountain the plow-guy left at the end of your driveway. Ever just wanted to call in 'winter'? You aren't alone- but there is a solution to beating the cold-weather commute blues. What you need, my friend, is a rally car.

2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR Review
Sunday, December 21, 2008
I drove this vehicle back to back with the Subaru WRX STI on the track at the AJAC TestFest this year, and I'd have to say that I'd possibly give it the edge over the Subie as a pure track vehicle. The car felt much tighter in the turns, the power and grip is simply amazing, and the steering, well go-kart-like is the only way I can describe it. Of course, neither won the COTY category, as that honor went to BMW's wonderful 135i.

2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR Review (video)
Thursday, November 27, 2008
Canadian sports car enthusiasts have been blessed this year, as two new video game celebrities finally arrived in our market: the Nissan GT-R, and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. We've been taking them on the tracks in such games as Gran Turismo, and now, we have a chance to park one in our garage.

Introducing the new Mitsubishi Lancer RALLIART
Wednesday, July 09, 2008
Mitsubishi is announcing a new version of the Galant Fortis. Better known in Canada as the Lancer, this compact sedan will now be available in RALLIART trim. The Galant Fortis RALLIART bridges the gap between the GTS and Evolution models. Under its aluminum hood is a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 237 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 253 lb-ft of torque at 3,000 rpm. Mitsubishi tweaked the fifth and sixth gear ratios of the twin-clutch Sport Shift Transmission (SST), also used by the Evolution X, in order to improve fuel economy.

2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR First Impressions (video)
Monday, June 16, 2008
Mont-Tremblant, QC--The Lancer Evolution is now in its 10th version, although available for the first time in Canada. However, the target clientele for this car already knows this mythic car pretty much since its birth. The car has always been normally reserved for an exclusive customer base by its phenomenal performance and high price. But now, the new MR model becomes more accessible (read: forgiving) to everyone, although still pretty expensive.

2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS Review
Saturday, April 26, 2008
Spring brings countless potholes, extreme gas-price volatility and warm, sunny weather- so a new car with nimble handling, good mileage and a sunroof may be just the ticket to kiss winter goodbye. Of course, a fun-to-drive and economical car can be enjoyed any day of the year, but if you're looking to play somewhere in the mid-$20,000 ballpark, the list of contenders may seem daunting.

2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution First Impressions
Thursday, March 13, 2008
The car is arguably mythic. Ever since appearing in video games, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution has developed an international following and could even be considered as a cult vehicle... especially in Canada. Of course, it was solely based on its reputation, as it had never been made available to us. But now that we've finally driven one, we almost feel the need to call our mommy to tell her all about it! The 2008 model year marks the arrival of the long-awaited, fully-redesigned and 100-percent legal tenth generation of the legendary Mitsubishi Evolution, the sportiest of the Lancer family.

They will rely on a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 that produces 291 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. The GSR gets a 5-speed manual while the MR receives a 6-speed sequential gearbox with wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The Evolution promises to give the Subaru STI a hard time.

Mitsubishi serves up Lancer Evolution version 10 in Los Angeles
Tuesday, November 20, 2007
We've been waiting for it for a long time. It's finally here. Said to be the most sophisticated version of the Evolution series, the high-performance Lancer is motivated by a turbocharged and intercooled 2.0-liter engine, good for 291 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. The previous Evo offered 286 hp and 289 lb-ft.

2008 Mitsubishi Lancer ES Road Test
Wednesday, August 22, 2007
After looking at the Civic and Mazda3 take a good portion of the market share, the Lancer had enough. Neglected, pushed in the corner, ridiculed, it gets a complete makeover for 2008, and now shows off a much-more menacing appearance. "I've had enough of this!"

2008 Mitsubishi Lancer First Impressions
Tuesday, May 08, 2007
The Dakar Rally is the toughest endurance test known for man and machine. Starting in Paris, France and ending in Dakar, Senegal, it's roughly 5,000 miles of rocks, sand, potholed roads and riverbeds. But the image that is most strongly etched in people's minds when they think of Dakar is the broiling sun and shifting sand of the Sahara desert.

It is coming! The EVO X is almost here!

2008 Mitsubishi Lancer First Impressions
Monday, February 26, 2007
OK, I'm not talking about Hollywood's latest starlet but rather the newest Mitsubishi: the 2008 Lancer. The ninth generation of this compact, which will hit the market at the end of March 2007, has a few surprises in store, beginning with very competitive prices (from $16,598 to $24,798 $). The Lancer is about 5 to 10 percent less expensive than its main rivals.

2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart Road Test
Monday, December 26, 2005
I can remember not so very long ago when I, as well as countless others, fell in love with little Japanese compacts, their smooth rides, can-do attitudes and small, efficient engines. Why though? There are certainly far more desirable cars out there than front wheel drive Hondas, Toyotas and Mitsubishis.

2005 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart

Remember the 1984 Colt Turbo? Or the 1989 Colt GT Turbo? How about the 1989 Dodge 2000GTX DOHC? Or the 1991 Eagle Talon TSi AWD? The 1992 Dodge Stealth R/T Turbo, perhaps?

2005 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart (Video Clip)
Wednesday, June 15, 2005
Between late 2002 and up until mid-2004, Mitsubishi had one of the most energetic and interesting advertising campaigns in a long while. Their ads featured smiling young men and women driving what seemed to be hot cars to some of the hippest tunes of the moment. They were actually some of the few commercials that my friends and I actually sat through to watch. If we look at the initial sales numbers that Mitsubishi recorded when they started selling cars in September of 2002, the marketing would seemed to have worked. Unfortunately, the effects have not lasted as long as MMSC would have liked.
