2012 Ford Edge Limited EcoBoost Review
Thursday, March 29, 2012
It's a jungle out there. It's my kind of jungle where consumers are surrounded with countless vehicular options. The tough part, and where I come in, is picking the ones that soothe or heal from the ones the sting or burn. You're welcome.

2012 Ford Explorer Limited EcoBoost FWD Review
Tuesday, February 21, 2012
If you're sceptical about how a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine performs in a big, heavy crossover such as the 2012 Ford Explorer, you probably aren't alone. Engine downsizing isn't a bad idea, as long as it doesn't require a major sacrifice in performance and succeeds in reducing fuel consumption.

2011 Chrysler 200 Limited Convertible Review
Sunday, November 20, 2011
We are in the midst of resurgence. The uprising I refer to has nothing to do with occupying financial districts as a form of democratic expression or the increasing popularity of everything 1960s. No, the revival I refer to is that of the hardtop convertible car with seating for four.

SUVs and young families: A match made in heaven?
Thursday, September 08, 2011
A few weeks ago, I blogged about an introspective moment in which I pondered the kind of car I would buy next for my family. I mentioned that I would consider swallowing my ever-manly pride for the first time in my life and spring for a minivan, although I vastly prefer SUVs and crossovers.

2011 Chrysler Town & Country Limited review
Friday, July 22, 2011
Perceptions are a funny thing. What you think you are getting is more important than what you are in fact receiving. Thankfully, not everyone falls for that. Case in point, the Chrysler Town & Country. As we all know, the T&C is a glorified Dodge Grand Caravan with a little more chrome and a different grille.

2011 Ford Explorer Limited V6 4WD Review
Saturday, July 02, 2011
Modern American family SUVs are among the most impressive machines in their segments, and the Ford Explorer is one example of why. Automakers on our shores have realized, perhaps suddenly, that they've got to build the best machines they've ever made. They've quickly started doing just that in a big way.

2011 Chrysler 200 Limited Review
Tuesday, June 21, 2011
One in every four passenger cars sold in Canada is a midsize sedan. Buyers in this market are focused on purchasing a vehicle that is affordable, offers a lot of value and is, of course, very fuel efficient.

2011 Chrysler 200 Limited Review
Sunday, August 28, 2011
Perhaps not surprisingly, Chrysler press materials on the new 200 frequently reference a "previous" model, although the name Sebring doesn't appear. That's likely because the first thing Chrysler doesn't want you to think of when you look at the new 200 is the former Chrysler Sebring.

2011 Chrysler 200 Limited Review
Monday, May 16, 2011
In as much as renaissance can apply to a car company, Chrysler is amidst a modern day adaptation of such a revival. The resurrection of the Pentastar brand is underwritten by a broad array of new products that include the lovable Fiat 500, the formidable new Dodge Charger and the reworked Chrysler 300. Adding to the resuscitative collective is the Chrysler 200, which arises from the carcass of the mid-size Sebring sedan.

2011 Ford Explorer Limited 4WD Review
Tuesday, May 10, 2011
It's bigger. Never mind the fact that it no longer offers a V8 engine option, the Explorer has been upsized. Never mind the fact that it's now based on a unibody chassis instead of a ladder frame one, the new model is longer and wider than the outgoing one.

2011 Chrysler 200 Limited Review
Monday, March 28, 2011
The strategy isn't new. Breathing new life into a truly uncompetitive product, without starting from scratch, has been done before. Toss in a name change, and you can almost get away with convincing the average car shopper that your product is brand-new.

2011 Hyundai Tucson Limited AWD Review
Wednesday, March 30, 2011
If I had told you only a couple of years back that emotions alone would lead you to purchase a Korean model, let alone a Hyundai, you would have sent me to psych ward. I'm 100-percent sure that this possibility never even crossed your mind.

2011 Hyundai Elantra Limited Review
Monday, March 14, 2011
Products of a rare elegance have been emerging from Hyundai's design studio over the past few months. One of them is the Elantra, a small sedan that builds on the successfully-styled Sonata... or is it the new Accent? Hum, tough to tell.

2011 Subaru Impreza WRX Limited 4-door Review
Tuesday, January 18, 2011

2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Review
Tuesday, December 28, 2010
I remember a time, not too long ago, when the Jeep Grand Cherokee was the most coveted vehicle in Quebec and in many other parts of the country. This was so true at the time that it also starred on or near the top of the most stolen vehicles list.

2010 Chrysler Town & Country Review
Friday, December 03, 2010
The Town & Country minivan is the up-scale version of the Dodge Grand Caravan and has been made in Canada since 1983. This latest generation was remodelled in 2008 and now has a boxier look to it than the previous model. Some journalists had described it as a jelly bean on wheels. The box on wheels style has been a popular style in other vehicles, so it's no surprise as to why they brought that look into this segment.

2010 Subaru Tribeca Limited Review
Saturday, October 23, 2010
If you don't have a mid-size SUV to offer in North America yet, you're missing the boat. Every manufacturer knows it, and has reacted consequently. Some were more in a hurry than others, swinging a deal with another automaker to rebadge a model that already existed, which saves times and development costs.

2010 Subaru Tribeca Limited Review
Thursday, October 07, 2010
Tribeca is an abbreviation for a neighbourhood in Manhattan called the Triangle Below Canal Street that's famous for art and design. It's also the name of what was, at a time, one of the most hideous-looking SUVs on the road.

2010 Ford Taurus Limited AWD Review
Monday, July 19, 2010
I'm sitting in the stands waiting for the start of Ford Press Conference at the 2007 Chicago Auto Show with some colleagues. We're talking about Ford's products and about how some of them have simply missed their mark; namely, the Five Hundred and Freestyle. Although they were decent vehicles to drive, they lacked more than "je ne sais quoi".

2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee First Impressions
Tuesday, June 22, 2010
Sausalito, California - I can't claim credit for uttering the quip, "putting the grand back in Grand Cherokee." That line belongs to Reid Bigland, President and CEO of Chrysler Canada. What I can say, is that after examining and driving Jeep's all-new 2011 Grand Cherokee, the "grand" is back in a grandiose way.

2011 Hyundai Sonata Limited Review
Sunday, June 20, 2010
The always-commendable, value-packed Hyundai Sonata has never been flashy or spectacular. Seriously, this Korean midsize sedan's conservative styling and lack of distinctive qualities used to make it an outcast. With fast-growing resources and promising advancements, though, the automaker was able to turn things around and deliver a killer blow in the form of the next-generation 2011 Hyundai Sonata.

2010 Midsize Sedan Comparative Road Test
Monday, May 31, 2010
Social media being what it is, we, at Auto123.com, posted some pictures and comments about our upcoming comparison road test on our Facebook page (Auto123.com). We listed the cars slated for evaluation and shortly afterwards, comments came pouring in, asking why this car and that car were not included in the test. First, we can't test them all. Second, we limit ourselves to a segment and third, we try and have them carry similar powertrains and levels of kit.

2010 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Limited Review
Monday, May 24, 2010
And when I say all, I mean you and four or six members of your entourage. The Highlander is a dedicated soft-roader crossover ideally suited for active family life. In fact, this vehicle began life, if you will, as a Camry wagon sharing platforms and powertrains in 2001. Today, the Highlander has been undercut by the Venza size-wise, but the Highlander's reason for being remains the same.

2010 Jeep Commander Limited Review
Wednesday, April 28, 2010
I find myself pretty cruel for saying that, but I can't help it. Now that Hummer, maker of big, brutish, fuel-guzzling pollution machines, has been terminated, environmentalists must now close in on a new target.

2010 Ford Flex Limited AWD EcoBoost Review
Thursday, April 29, 2010
I'm going to be only partially as bold as Ford and submit the fact that I was going to use "Flex. Now with wings" as a title. As I pondered the significance of the line that is aimed at attracting the reader's attention, I quickly realized that the idea may not be as good as I first thought given the potential interpretation... Please indulge me.

2010 Toyota RAV4 Limited 4WD V6 Review
Sunday, April 25, 2010
The immensely-popular Toyota RAV4 is a leader among sport utility vehicles. I'm not referring to technology, innovation or styling; I'm just saying it's a leader based on Canadian sales volumes... as has been the case for several years.

2010 Hyundai Tucson Limited AWD Review
Friday, April 09, 2010
I'm on a roll. As far as I'm concerned anyways. And no, as you can tell by what I will be writing about, I'm not high-rollin' or pimping it out in performance or luxury cars. In fact, since the beginning of 2010, with the exception of the Mercedes S400, I've been testing out vehicles exclusively with hatches. And, believe it or not, I've got tonnes more coming my way in the near future. This is proof-positive that a hatchback is a very popular option in the 21st Century.

2010 Toyota 4Runner Limited Review
Friday, February 05, 2010
There it is, just sitting there, quiet, smug but with impressive potential and a stance that gives onlookers a hint at what this behemoth is capable of. The 2010 4Runner has roots that run deep in the off-road and overland explorer's history. I'll venture a guess that if you are reading this review, you know what a Land Cruiser is, what it can do and what it has done. There are clear and present family ties between the two.

2009 smart fortwo Cabriolet Limited Three Review
Wednesday, September 16, 2009
If "cute and quirky" is the yardstick by which one measures an automobile, the smart limited-three edition cabriolet is a definite hit; however if performance and practicality serve as the yardstick, the latest limited edition smart micro-car may come up short in more than just wheelbase.

2009 Jeep Compass Limited 4WD Review
Thursday, February 05, 2009
The Jeep Compass is like the little kid who looks up to his big brother and wants to be exactly like him. However, aspiring to be a grown-up and acting like one are two different things. If both do not go hand in hand, there's something missing. In the case of the Compass, it's a big something: this vehicle has the looks of a Jeep but not the capabilities that have made the brand famous

2009 Chrysler Town & Country Limited Review
Friday, January 09, 2009
There are those that would have you believe that the minivan is dead, uncool, or otherwise made irrelevant amidst the sea of SUVs flooding today's marketplace. With Ford and GM out of the game, it's the originator of the minivan species that's been left as its sole North American-based manufacturer.

2009 Chrysler Aspen Hybrid Review
Wednesday, December 31, 2008
The Aspen is Chrysler's first foray into the world of sport utility vehicles. That's right: the storied company had never offered an SUV before, leaving that job to its sportier Dodge division. While the Aspen burst onto the scene fairly late, it now represents a quality alternative, especially in hybrid variant.

2009 Hyundai Sonata V6 Limited Review (video)
Friday, November 21, 2008
We can be as open-minded and enthusiastic as we like, older car aficionados still remember the trials and tribulations of Korean manufacturer Hyundai's first arrival in the Americas: the infamous but no less popular Pony topping the list of our grievances. This no doubt accounts for the fact that when we're thinking of buying a new car, the name Hyundai doesn't come spontaneously to mind. Neither does Kia, for that matter.

2008 Hyundai Azera Limited Review
Friday, October 24, 2008
Ever since the Azera was first launched in 2006, I've been itching to get behind the wheel of one, but you know how things go, there's always something else to do. Of course, I've had opportunities to drive it at various events, but I thought that in order to give it a fair evaluation, I'd wait until I could book one for a whole week! After all, as I see it, the Azera was the model which first heralded in the idea of luxury products from Hyundai.

2008 Jeep Liberty Limited Review
Sunday, October 19, 2008
In the total redesign for 2008, Liberty has taken on more of what we think of as "Jeep" characteristics, particularly on the outside. Up front the traditional Jeep grille is still there, but the headlamps are larger and the front fascia covers a fully redesigned bumper assembly. Take a look from the side and the Liberty is a bit longer than the previous generation and has a bit more glitter with chrome accenting.

2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Long-Term
Wednesday, September 10, 2008
Toyota made a bold move a few years ago by introducing the first-generation Highlander Hybrid -- the pioneer of environmentally-friendly SUVs. Indeed, while this vehicle enjoyed relative success, it really opened the door to a new market segment. With the second generation, the Japanese automaker wanted to make its midsize SUV even greener.

2008 Hyundai Entourage Limited Review
Saturday, September 06, 2008
Some people think the minivan, as we know it, will disappear in a few years. Yet when you need one for going on a family vacation, you realize that it's a miracle on wheels. The minivan, just like this Hyundai Entourage, can do it all: haul the family, carry a great amount of cargo, and tow a camper or boat. Once your 2-week vacation is over, though, you still have a big vehicle to drive around for the rest of the year.

2009 Hyundai Sonata Limited V6 Review
Tuesday, August 26, 2008
The award-winning Sonata is Hyundai's mid-size bread and butter sedan, which for 2009 just got a little sweeter. Warm out of the oven, the '09 Sonata exhibits revised front and rear fascias along with a revamped interior. The changes also include a little more yeast under the hood in both V6 and I4 configurations. The exterior redesign for 2009 has given the Sonata a slightly more refined, upscale appearance.

2008 Ford Edge Review
Tuesday, August 12, 2008
Over the last few years, the blue-oval auto giant suffered its fair share of setbacks. Several models, like the supposedly revolutionary Five Hundred sedan, turned out to be utter failures in terms of sales. To make matters worse, the Explorer midsize SUV is starting to get shunned by American consumers. It now trails the smaller Honda CR-V on the sales charts, after more than a decade at the top. Rising gas prices have obviously played a huge part.

2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Limited Review
Friday, June 27, 2008
Toyota chose to give its Highlander Hybrid Limited a high level of comfort and soundproofing to ensure a ride that is as smooth as possible. The Highlander Hybrid Limited has everything to please well-to-do buyers ($54,220) who are seeking an environmentally friendly vehicle. Nevertheless, more affordable versions are available: The base version costs $41,075 and the Comfort version goes for $46,030, with the difference between the two lying in the numerous electrical accessory packages offered and the interior's level of luxury.

2008 Hyundai Veracruz Limited AWD Review
Sunday, June 29, 2008
Korean automaker Hyundai has a knack for creating vehicles with a modern feel. Designers take the most successful features out there and rearrange them in their own unique way. The all-new Veracruz is a great example. Understated enough to blend in yet distinctive enough to stand out, my Limited tester offered all the bells and whistles of the competition in addition to high levels of comfort.

2008 Jeep Liberty Limited Review
Tuesday, June 24, 2008
Unless you're a member of the Jeep Club or a true 4x4 enthusiast, chances are you'll drive just like every other Liberty owner: your only off-road adventures will be when you're driving on the side of the road. The only reasons why people buy this vehicle are the four-letter signature on the hood and the relative prestige of the brand. They feel invincible when tackling snow banks and potholes -- but then what?

2008 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Limited V8 4X4 Review
Saturday, July 19, 2008
The completely redesigned Explorer Sport Trac was launched as a 2007 model. For 2008, this versatile rig remains substantially unchanged except when it comes to content, such as the addition of Ford's SYNC hands-free in-car communications and entertainment system. It's pretty tough to grace what is essentially a pickup truck with curb appeal beyond that of a garden shed, yet Ford has managed to do just that with the latest rendition of their Sport Trac.

2008 Hyundai Elantra Limited Review
Tuesday, June 03, 2008
Some cars catch your attention at first glance. And then there are the others -- less spectacular and often considered as nothing more than a means of transportation. Buyers choose them for their reliability and affordable price, not for the passion they arouse. The Hyundai Elantra is one of them.

2008 Mitsubishi Endeavor Limited AWD Review
Thursday, May 29, 2008
The Endeavor is the first midsize SUV from Mitsubishi that's truly competitive. The old Montero and Montero Sport were already outdated when they landed on our shores, which explains why they were so rapidly dismissed. Then came the Outlander, which takes on the compact SUV segment. Introduced in 2004, the odd-looking Endeavor immediately made a splash with its strong personality and equally strong fenders and fascia.

2008 Toyota Sequoia Limited Review
Thursday, May 22, 2008
Over the last two weeks, Toyota really spoiled me. As most people know, I'm a big fan of trucks and SUVs. Representatives from the Japanese automaker therefore gave me the opportunity to try out two flagship models back to back. First, I spent a week behind the wheel of the Lexus LX 570, the company's warhorse in the premium full-size SUV segment.

2008 Hyundai Azera Limited Review
Monday, May 26, 2008
The Azera is Hyundai's full-size flagship luxury sedan. It's a spacious V6-powered, front-wheel-drive four-dour capable of transporting five adults in generous comfort. It's unlikely anyone will quarrel over the Azera's styling, it's sufficiently conservative to be considered inoffensive yet distinct enough to catch the eye; it's also masks quite effectively the vehicle's size, which is approximately 2-inches longer in overall length than the "larger for 2008" Honda Accord. Whether its exterior presentation is exciting enough to induce heart palpitations or not, the Azera is a nicely proportioned, accurately assembled sedan. My guess is that its lines were intended to please a North American market; a market that might otherwise look to Buick in an effort to quench its taste.

2008 Hyundai Sonata Limited Review
Sunday, April 13, 2008
Back in 1987, I knew a family that owned a Stellar. Remember that car? It's the first sedan that the Korean manufacturer sold in Canada. I was only 11 at the time, but I still remember one thing: that car had a lot of pieces missing. There were missing door lock pulls, absent or broken plastic trim, and a general lack of build quality. The Pony was no better.

2008 Hyundai Tucson Limited Review
Monday, April 21, 2008
The Tucson spearheaded Hyundai's recent product offensive. Its launch in 2005 was followed by no less than six redesigned models and two all-new ones. Accent Hatchback, Accent Sedan, Elantra, Sonata, Azera and Santa Fe all got makeovers, while the Entourage and Veracruz were additions to the line-up. Only the Tiburon is waiting for a redesign, although it received minor changes in 2007. In its fourth year on the market, the Tucson is still cute-looking, with its stubby proportions and shapely sheetmetal.

2008 Hyundai Veracruz Limited Review
Thursday, May 08, 2008
If you're traditionally a supporter of the underdog, you'll no doubt be an ally of Korean auto manufacturer, Hyundai. Not so long ago in North America, this nameplate held little prestige and was in fact downright laughable when it came to technology and quality. Those days are over and that reputation is history. The mid-size all-wheel-drive (AWD) Veracruz crossover - also known as an LUV (luxury utility vehicle) - germinates from the smaller Hyundai Santa Fe platform. The enhanced dimensions of the Veracruz enable the placement of a truly functional third row seat; a feature often sought after by SUV and crossover buyers but rarely received.

2008 Hyundai Entourage Limited Review
Saturday, April 19, 2008
The Entourage is Hyundai's first full-size minivan. 2008 marks the second year of its production. As with other Hyundai products of late, the Entourage adheres to Hyundai's strategy of over-delivering on its products. There are no fundamental changes for 2008 in this oft overlooked high-value competitor to the better-known rigs from Honda, Toyota and Dodge/Chrysler.

2008 Ford Taurus X Limited AWD Review
Wednesday, April 02, 2008
It's never been more confusing to buy a family vehicle. Being assaulted with a list of contenders like minivans, wagons, sedans and SUV's wasn't enough- and now carmakers are throwing something called the 'crossover' into the mix. Like a four-wheeled identity crisis, they combine selected attributes of the above vehicles into a single machine.

2008 Jeep Liberty Limited Review
Friday, March 28, 2008
Not to unleash a drastic new fact or anything, but the average family SUV driver (and even many adventurous ones), don't push their machine's off-road abilities. In many cases, such 'utes won't see more challenging conditions than a snowy side-road or an icy driveway. To most machinery this is fine- but to a Jeep, it's almost an insult.

2007 Hyundai Veracruz Limited Review
Sunday, March 23, 2008
Hyundai sees big, and I'm not merely talking about sales. After enjoying much success in the compact SUV market, the Korean automaker now takes on larger, more upscale utility vehicles. The first strike came a couple of months ago with the introduction of the all-new Veracruz full-size crossover.

2008 Chrysler Town & Country Limited Road Test
Wednesday, January 30, 2008
In a segment that's constantly shrinking, Chrysler aims to reinvent the minivan one more time. After all, it's this same company that created this type of vehicle in the '80s, so giving up is out of the question. But can a minivan, which is basically a vehicle made for transporting lots of people or lots of stuff, carry a sticker price of over $40,000? Because with such a budget, we might prefer buying a vehicle that will upgrade our image.

2008 Chrysler Town and Country Limited Road Test
Friday, December 21, 2007
Chrysler isn't huge on the breed of crossovers which are taking over the world one driveway at a time- but they've just updated their famous minivan lineup. It's a different ball game for the new generation of sliding-door superheroes, because Chrysler is now the only American automaker to offer them.

2008 Ford Taurus X Limited AWD Road Test
Friday, October 19, 2007
I'll obviously start with the name change. Once the Freestyle, this crossover vehicle has battled an identity crisis ever since its launch. Without being unpleasant, the Freestyle's look was rather generic, unexciting, and very anonymous.

2008 Ford Taurus Limited AWD Road Test (video)
Thursday, August 23, 2007
If you're looking at the photo, you probably think you're seeing the new Ford Five Hundred. Close, but no flagship sedan. The Five-Hundred namesake wasn't selling enough units, so Ford decided to leave the three-digit-number cars to Chrysler and bring back a familiar name from years gone by.

2007 Toyota Tundra CrewMax LTD Road Test
Saturday, September 01, 2007

2007 Chrysler Pacifica Limited AWD Road Test
Tuesday, May 29, 2007
The Pacifica was one of the pioneers of the hot new crossover segment. Launched in 2003 as a 2004 model, consumers had a hard time trying to figure out exactly what it was. Smaller than a minivan and different in shape than an SUV, the Pacifica seemed to break away from the mainstream trend.

2007 Chrysler Aspen Limited Road Test
Thursday, March 22, 2007
When Chrysler finally decided to jump on the full-size SUV bandwagon, they hadn't the "poor" Canadian market in mind. On the contrary, the American automaker targeted first and foremost its own market. The Aspen, which is basically a more luxurious Dodge Durango, was given quite a mission: keep Chrysler customers from leaving the family.

2006 Toyota 4Runner V8 4WD Limited Road Test
Saturday, April 22, 2006
I should warn you ahead of time that this review may not be up to my usual standard of wit and repartee. For some reason, Toyotas simply bring out the adult in me, the critic who evaluates a car from all angles, its functionality, its value, its merit and position in the marketplace, as well as the many conveniences and advantages each model may pose. This kind of analysis serves the 4Runner well, I believe, because it withstood such scrutiny and came out shining.

2006 Jeep Commander Limited Road & Trail Test

DaimlerChrysler, otherwise known as Chrysler Group, has an interesting philosophy when it comes to styling.
