2011 Acura MDX SH-AWD Elite Review
Monday, December 12, 2011
For anyone who follows my reviews and articles (which, of course, you all do), you'll know I'm not a fan of bigger vehicles. SUVs, pickups, even some CUVs are usually lost on me. I like sedans, compacts and subcompacts: the more a manufacturer can cram into a small package, the better it is for me. Perhaps it's my lifestyle: I have no need for such a vehicle - at least, that used to be the case.

2009 Acura MDX Technology Review
Tuesday, November 03, 2009
The marketing experts at Acura are clearly not afraid of words. They do not hesitate to label their new MDX as a sport utility vehicle even though this expression is now associated with some of the worst gas-guzzlers in the minds of many consumers.

2008 Acura MDX Elite Review
Sunday, August 03, 2008
As soon as they hit the market, some vehicles capture our imagination with their boldly innovative or plainly singular design. The 2008 Acura MDX is certainly bold... and singular. Upon its introduction, this CUV surprised many fans and medias. The armor-looking grille, in particular, generated a lot of buzz and controversy. The brand's new design language essentially consists of sharp lines cutting across each other to create a distinctive package.

2008 Acura MDX Review
Friday, June 27, 2008
The MDX is Acura's full-size, all-wheel-drive (AWD) SUV that seats seven occupants. This luxurious rig was completely redone for 2007; apart from some minor décor enhancements, the vehicle is substantially unchanged for 2008. The current generation MDX projects a distinctive image that's difficult to confuse with the multitude of crossovers and SUVs jamming mall parking lots these days.

2001-2006 Acura MDX Pre-Owned
Saturday, February 16, 2008
Fifteen years ago, it seemed like everyone starting buying SUVs overnight. Manufacturers scrambled to put their own versions to market, while others, seeing nothing resolutely looking like an SUV in their product pipeline, resorted to swinging a deal with other companies for a quick clone and rebadge.

2007 Acura MDX Elite Road Test
Saturday, September 29, 2007
It might just be an impression, but a lot of people feel safer behind the wheel of an SUV or a truck, rather than a car. It's possible that manufacturers influence us on this matter, since this market is much more profitable than the small car one. On the flipside, though, is that manufacturers offer what the consumers want, and we're asking for more and more trucks.

Review of the 2007 Acura MDX by the former Vancouver Chief Constable
Saturday, September 01, 2007
Prior to serving for five-years as the outspoken chief of the Vancouver Police Department, Jamie Graham spent 34-years wearing the red surge of the RCMP. He investigated crimes of all description, including robbery and murder. He also commanded a series of high profile RCMP detachments before adopting the "blue" of the Vancouver Police Department. On August 14th, Jamie unloaded and secured his Sig Sauer for the last time. A longtime car aficionado, Jamie offers his thoughts on Acura's premium-level SUV.

2007 Acura MDX Tech Road Test
Friday, February 23, 2007
The 2001-2006 Acura MDX has to some extent been the underdog of the midsize luxury SUV group. In most recent comparison tests, it was often nowhere to be seen. It seemed as though only the X5, RX, ML and Escalade existed. The grounds for this omission was simply due to the fact that the MDX, as good as it was, failed to capture the interest of the people in this market. This is not to say that the MDX did not sell, it did well but its soft personality and lack of Lexus or German prestige hurt its chances at being a blockbuster.

2007 Acura MDX Elite Road Test
Thursday, February 01, 2007
As it pertains to SUVs, 2007 is proving to be a significant year for Acura. They not only launched the RDX, a new model in the compact SUV segment, they extensively reworked the mid-size MDX. As fate and serendipitous scheduling would have it, I recently road test the two vehicles one-after-the-other. The opportunity to consecutively sample both units sharply contrasted the distinctions in their design, operation and demeanor. Each buggy exhibited very different driving dynamics and personality. The RDX is the jackrabbit of the pair while the MDX fulfills the role of graceful heavyweight. Although both of Acura's SUVs are premium-level offerings, the RDX emphasizes performance and sport over comfort and refinement. As expected, the larger and more expensive MDX seeks to spoil with lavish surroundings and limousine-like characteristics. Obviously the two renditions are targeted at completely different markets- count me in the latter.

The second generation 2007 Acura MDX will be making its way into showrooms by the end of this year. 2006 Acura MDX Road Test
Saturday, September 23, 2006
Cars and trucks are regarded as means of transportation, therefore tools to accomplish specific tasks. Some are perfectly adapted for specific types of work and others could be best described as versatile go anywhere do anything vehicles. One of the finest user-friendliest Swiss Army knives in the automotive world has to be the Acura MDX. Here we have a luxury SUV that is as docile as a regular sedan, as powerful as a sporty sedan, as roomy as a minivan and as capable off the beaten path as 90% of other SUVs.

2005 Acura MDX Road Test
Tuesday, July 26, 2005
Although the 2005 Acura MDX is essentially unchanged from 2004, it continues to be a high achiever in the mid-size, premium SUV market. In fact the MDX has changed little since its introduction in 2001, which would suggest that Acura got it "right" the first time- something that is rare in the auto industry. Despite getting it "right" in so many ways, I am not sure they got it "right" design-wise as I have never been enamored by the nose job on the MDX. From day one I found it a little weird, as if it was intended to mimic the bow of a ship. Apart from its questionable marine imagery, the MDX projects a clean set of lines dominated by plenty of glass and sedan-like "C" pillars.

2004 Acura MDX Update
Thursday, April 29, 2004
Given the Consumer Reports seal of approval and with several minor upgrades for 2004, the car is probably worthy of re-consideration for someone looking for a seven-spot SUV with all the toys.

2004 Acura MDX Road Test
Sunday, February 01, 2004
I took delivery of the 2004 Acura MDX just before one of only a few snowstorms that hit my fair city each winter covered the ground with a thick load of white stuff. Of course when snow blankets the roadways, the city becomes paralyzed as traffic grinds to a halt and stuck cars become objects to be vilified on the evening news.

2003 Acura MDX Road Test
Saturday, June 21, 2003
If you drive a garden variety big SUV, you're probably all too familiar with the withering look of disdain and disapproval cast upwards from the driving public. Sure, there is the odd 18-year-old dude, and yet odder 45-year-old guy, who glances up wistfully at the bulging body cladding and 18-inch wheels and tires with wanton attitude.

2001 Acura MDX Road Test
Monday, January 01, 2001
With the introduction of the edgy new MDX, things are definitely heating up in the showrooms of Honda's conservative upscale manufacturer. Acura has tossed out its Isuzu-derived, truck-based SLX and stepped up with what is one of the most attractive, best performing sport utility vehicles available. Press down hard on the accelerator and the quick revving 240-hp, 3.5-L VTEC V6 springs to life, hurling you from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 9 seconds. Although besting most 6-cylinder rivals, straight-line performance is hardly its forte, as the MDX truly shines when the road begins to curve. The Acura steals its platform from the Honda Odyssey Minivan, which is no bad thing. The Odyssey underpinnings give the MDX the widest track in its class, allowing it to out handle the majority of SUV competitors. Low roll centers combine with stiff anti-roll bars, adding stability when pushed to the limit of grip. The 5-speed automatic is well suited to the engine, shifting effortlessly. That said, I would like to see the gated shifter give way to Acura's wonderful sequential shifting manual-mode automatic found in the CL Type-S.

ACURA MDX: A WELL-BUILT LUXURY VEHICLE
Wednesday, December 20, 2000
The MDX designers discarded the numerous chrome moldings and managed to come up with some of Acura's typical cues like the pointed nose, trapezoidal grille and crisp-edged silhouette. Let's recall that the MDX is built at the Alliston, Ontario, plant.
Its unique and appealing shape, enhanced by its wide stance and strong look, is quite likely to seduce many a buyers. The lower body sections are coated with an anti-chip stuff.
That elegant body boasts of a remarkable assembling quality. The Acura engineers claim that its avant-garde structure ranks among the safest in terms of impact protection.
The front end reminds us of the Acura CL and TL models. Instruments are separated in three pods and are easy to read while main controls could be easier to read. The centre stack, built in the dashboard, hosts a huge screen mounted above the stereo. The screen is used as a trip computer and will eventually house a navigation system.
