Grand-Am: Corvette and Ferrari win wet Grand Prix of Miami (+results)

Corvette, represented by Ricky Taylor and Max Angelelli in the No. 10 SunTrust Corvette DP, and Ferrari, thanks to Jeff Segal and Emil Assentato aboard their No. 69 FXDD Ferrari 458 Italia, won their respective class of a Grand-Am Grand Prix of Miami marked by heavy rain.

Former Renault Formula 1 racer Nelson Piquet Jr will compete in both the Nationwide Series and the Camping World Truck Series as the 2011 NASCAR season comes to a close at the 1.5-mile Homestead-Miami Speedway in Florida this weekend.

Ganassi's Dario Franchitti won his third IndyCar championship in four years starting the race in 8th position only in the season' finale at Homestead Miami Speedway. Series leader Will Power (Penske) was forced to abandon the race after damaging his suspension.

There wasn't much doubt that Jimmie Johnson would win a record fourth-straight NASCAR championship. All he had to do was finish 25th or better and did with a fifth place. Because of his polished nature he may have been un-appreciated in the NASCAR garage. Crew chief said "That guy is the most underrated driver in this garage from the perspective of media recognition."

"Icing on the cake," exclaimed Kyle Busch as he took the checkered flag and the Nationwide Championship at the Miami. Busch, driving a Toyota, held off a determined charge by Carl Edwards who coincidentally finished second in the points in a Ford.

Dario Franchitti (Ganassi) has prevailed in the last moment of the IndyCar grand finale at Homestead to win one exciting race and clintch his second carrer title while Ryan Briscoe (Penske) and Franchitti's team-mate Scott Dixon dominated the race from the front, battling wheel to wheel for victory for most of the afternoon.
