Johnny Nash sang it, as did Jimmy Cliff and even Bob Marley, but the lyrics I can see clearly now the rain has gone don't necessarily work when you're behind the wheel of a car! In the real world, especially here in Canada, what's left is a mixture of road film and the dreaded crystallized salt during winter, which is why car manufacturers need to install a decent wash/wipe system on their vehicles.

Janis Joplin said it all when she sang the words, Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes-Benz! Now I'm sure most of you have heard those famous lyrics, but how many of you have actually sat down and contemplated precisely which Mercedes model Janis was yearning after? Well I have. In fact, without directly contacting the lady herself to confirm this, which would be rather difficult as Janis sadly passed away back in 1970, I can almost guarantee that she was referring to the famous SL convertible.

Mercedes-Benz Canada invited journalists to Montreal to test-drive three new exciting models: the 2009 SL and SLK sports convertibles as well as the 2009 CLS four-door coupe. All three have been revised to varying degrees, both in terms of aesthetics and interior layout. First, they get a newly-engineered Direct Drive steering system offering quicker response at low speed, in sharp turns and during parking maneuvers.

Palm Springs, California - AMG became a standalone division of Daimler AG last year, joining the likes of Mercedes-Benz, Maybach and smart. A team of engineers, headed by AMG executive Wolf Zimmerman, recently introduced the all-new 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL63/SL65 AMG to a group of auto journalists from all over the world. Mr. Zimmerman is the one who designed the famous 6.3-liter AMG V8 a few years back. Due to an extremely busy schedule, we only had the opportunity to try out the SL63, although it will most likely prove to be the best-selling model in Canada. F1 enthusiasts are no doubt aware that it's a slightly de-tuned version of the official safety car used during every Grand Prix.

Mercedes-Benz relied on finesse and technical refinement to update its stunning SL-Class. In Canada, buyers will have a choice of two models: the SL550 and SL600. The first North American SL convertibles or roadsters were introduced in Hollywood during the 1957 LA Auto Show. The 300SL Roadster was soon followed by the 190SL. A second generation was launched in 1963 with the 230SL and, in 1971, the 280SL. Meanwhile, the third-generation model made its debut in the early 1970s with the 350SL. Then there was the first 500SL, in 1980.
