2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Review
Saturday, October 11, 2008
A number of compact relatively inexpensive rockets have come to market lately, such as the Dodge SRT4 and the Mazdaspeed3. Chevrolet has launched the latest salvo in this thin-wallet performance war with the 2008 Cobalt SS. It's a front-wheel-drive coupe that for 2008 is fitted with a turbocharger rather than last year's supercharger.

2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Review
Saturday, September 13, 2008
Chevrolet engineers managed to create a sporty compact car that can rival the Mazdaspeed3 and Honda Civic Si. The Chevrolet Cobalt SS showcases a number of skills and sporty dynamics which the regular model had yet to achieve. This turbocharged Cobalt sure is a solid performer, but the biggest surprise comes from its handling and braking capabilities -- two key attributes for any aspiring sports car.

2008 Chevrolet HHR SS Review
Monday, September 01, 2008
When GM launched the Pontiac Solstice GXP and Saturn Sky Red Line roadsters a year and a half ago, we were impressed by their new turbo 2.0-litre engine's power and fuel efficiency. To no one's surprise, the company decided to pass it along to other models, notably the Cobalt and the HHR. There were even rumours that it might be the upcoming Camaro's base engine.

Comparison test: torque-steering Hot Hatches (video)
Monday, July 07, 2008
In Canada, we've always been fond of hatchbacks. In the '80s, such models with higher horsepower levels, tight suspensions and sport seats were roaming the streets. Remember the original VW Rabbit GTI? The Mazda 323GTX? The Honda Civic Si? The Dodge/Plymouth Colt Turbo? The Toyota Corolla GT-S? The Chevrolet Sprint Turbo and Pontiac Firefly Turbo? The Suzuki Swift GT? We do, as we wipe the tears in our eyes.

2008 Chevrolet HHR SS Review
Tuesday, August 05, 2008
Yes, it's an HHR SS. Yes, it's got 'that sick new turbo engine', launch-control and no-lift shifting, and yes- it goes like all heck. GM's performance team has worked their magic on the sensible HHR and added visual upgrades, a new engine, new sound-effects, and a 260 horsepower punch. All the sensible HHR stuff is intact too.

Chevrolet value-prices Cobalt SS Turbo
Thursday, April 24, 2008
The new Chevrolet Cobalt SS Turbo will start just at just $24,995- undercutting the prices of several competing factory-tuned turbo rigs. Cobalt SS Turbo replaces the former Cobalt SS Supercharged model, ditching the supercharged Ecotec engine in favor of a more potent turbocharged unit that develops nearly 60 more horsepower.

2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx SS Road Test
Friday, April 14, 2006
Super practical, sure, and definitely sporty, but Super Sport? I don't think so. I think Chevrolet did almost everything right with this car, but then they went and messed it up by trying to claim it was something that it quite simply is not. You don't put a badge on a car and expect people to buy it just because the badge says it's hot. I feel kind of embarrassed for GM, who now have to live with all the comparisons that will embarrass the Malibu SS. I would cite some examples, but I'm not really much for classic muscle cars, but anyone who loves the SS nameplate of olden days won't likely be satisfied with the meager portion of muscle found under the hood of this tepid rod.

2005 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Road Test
Thursday, September 15, 2005
What is (sort of) big, yellow and has a pretty large wing span? No... not Big Bird. It's the new 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt SS in "Rally Yellow" paint. And just like Big Bird, it is recognizable from a distance, brings smiles to small children, and once seen it's hard to forget.

2004 Chevy SSR Road Test
Monday, April 26, 2004
Before telling you anything about the SSR, let me tell you about the attention it garners. I've never driven a vehicle that draws a crowd as quickly as the SSR. Sure I've driven vehicles that cost a whole lot more and perform a whole lot better, but in my experience nothing attracts human beings better than Chevy's flagship pickup cum roadster.

2004 Chevy SSR Road Test
Saturday, February 07, 2004
Not since driving a then new bright yellow Hummer H2 around town have I pulled so many eyeballs. But the SSR is even better exhibitionist material, as the top drops to let all see who's behind the wheel. First off, I've got to commend the bowtie boys for allowing this truck to exist.

2004 Chevrolet Impala SS Road Test
Sunday, January 25, 2004
At first blush, the 2004 Chevy Impala SS looks like a Big Three sedan on steroids, which in essence, it is. But beneath that monochromatic body beats the heart of the American muscle car and a rightful claim to direct descendancy to the muscle car that started it all more than 40 years ago. In 1961, the Impala lost its tail fins and gained an SS option.

2004 Chevy SSR Preview
Wednesday, September 10, 2003
Is it 1953 or 2003? One might be forgiven should if having difficulty answering that question while admiring the retro-theme of Chevy's new SSR. The SSR is a cutting-edge convertible sports pickup truck of 2003 vintage, although its design is lifted directly from the 1947 through 1953 line of Chevy pickups. Think of it as the spitting automotive image equivalent of your Granddad, sans wrinkles and false teeth.

GOODYEAR EAGLE PERFORMANCE TIRES STAR ON CHEVROLET SSR
Wednesday, October 10, 2001
When the highly anticipated Chevrolet SSR roadster pickup hits the streets, it will be riding on Goodyear Eagle performance tires. General Motors selected Goodyear to develop tires for the innovative specialty vehicle that goes into production in late 2002. Goodyear engineers used computer modeling to develop super-wide Eagle RS-A performance tires in an accelerated program. "Think of it as tire development on steroids," says John Eagleburger, Goodyear team leader for the General Motors account.

Gone is the dash-mounted flower vase in the latest version of Volkswagen's Bug. Gone too is much of its cutesiness, replaced by a notable degree of sportiness intended to broaden the Beetle's target market by attracting male attention.
