As gasoline prices dangerously inch closer to their 2008 peak, Scotia Economics reports that Canadian and American consumers are massively turning to more efficient vehicles.
Over here, sales of compact cars and small SUVs jumped 23 percent year over year in April – a sharp reversal from previous months when pickups and minivans were leading the way.
South of the border, where big, gas-guzzling models have proven especially popular in the past, more and more drivers are adjusting their shopping list due to the steady gas hikes.
Over the two previous months, compact cars and small SUVs soared 40 percent from a year ago. They now account for nearly one quarter of overall volumes in America.
