In 2010, Tesla and Toyota became partners for four years and $100 million, with the former agreeing to supply electric motors and batteries to the latter. The plan was to build 2,600 Toyota RAV4 EVs.
So far, Toyota has sold 1,594 units, mainly in California. And there are questions about the future of the RAV4 EV program.
Through a company spokesman, Toyota said it has not made any official decision, let alone an announcement, simply calling the program “a specific number of vehicles that we planned to sell for a specific number of years.”
