I’m in Montana for the next couple of days to drive the redesigned, 2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class. Quite frankly, I didn’t know what to expect, besides the fact that my colleagues have been to much more glamorous places in recent months: Spain, Germany, France, California. Me? I decide to take the Montana press trip.

I’m glad I did.

Granted, I’ve only been here for a few hours, but the place where Mercedes-Benz brought us is nothing short of breathtaking. First of all, being in Montana means scenery furnished with mountains, no matter in what direction you look.

Second, the place we’re staying at is called The Resort at Paws Up, a 37,000-acre patch of land in Greenough, where you can rent one of several cottages that sits in the middle of a hilly forest. Actually, they aren’t cottages; more like wilderness homes. The one I’m lodging in is called Pompey’s Pillar, a 3,300-square-foot, a rustic and extremely tastefully decorated estate.

It’s got three bedrooms, a living room on the first floor, a living room on a mezzanine, mile-long front and rear balconies and a spa. In each room, you get a private bathroom, a flat-screen TV and Internet access.

I could easily see myself and a bunch of buddies, or me and family, renting a place like this for a week and get away from it all; that is, if I could afford it (the estate we’re in costs $2,955 USD per night in summertime). The resort offers several activities, such as horseback riding, golfing, fishing, boating and hiking, among lots of other stuff.

You can check out the Resort at Paws Up here: www.pawsup.com.

I gotta run; cocktails in 20 minutes on the Cook Shack Lawn, dinner at the Pomp Restaurant and, if I’m still awake, I might drop by the Tank & Trough Bar.
