I'm really impressed with the sure-footedness of this all-wheel-drive Porsche; a powerful sports car in this sort of weather sounds like a recipe for disaster, but with the traction control engaged, our course is planted and there's nary a slip. Not so fortunate was the open-wheel spec racer whose slicks were no match for the slippery tarmac. Spinning out, he slid off the track and came to rest at the wall by turn 4. Fortunately, there were no passengers on board, and for the remainder of the day the bright yellow car was the source of wide-eyed commentary and pointing fingers.

The sky has become ominously dark and we're hit with swirling snow flurries. By this time, the pavement has a thick coat of nasty slush and there are only a few intrepid souls still out on the track. I must admit to a feeling of relief as the marshals unfurl the black flags, signalling us to come in.

Although the event, aside from raising important funds, is primarily a fun-filled day free from the seriousness inherent in the lives of the children involved, I can't help feeling that the volunteers benefit too. I'd like to thank long-time organizer and participant Rick Bye, fleet manager for Porsche Canada, not only for entrusting me with the awe-inspiring 911 Turbo S, but for the privilege of being asked to take part.
