Several sources including Automotive News are reporting that the next-generation Jeep Wrangler, scheduled for 2017, will retain a body-on-frame construction but gain an aluminum body, similar to the new Ford F-150.

Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne said that the new Wrangler needed to lose weight. However, doing so with aluminum might mean finding a different production facility because of excessive costs to re-equip the Toledo plant.

On October 21st, the city of Toledo bought 32 acres adjacent to the Wrangler assembly plant, possibly for an expansion. Officials and the automaker are mum on the possibility, though.
