Here is a video showing the stunning qualifying lap of Ayrton Senna driving his Lotus 98T powered by the ridiculously powerful Renault turbo engine.
The location is the long circuit of Brands Hatch, UK, home of the Grand Prix of Great Britain in 1986.
Senna qualified third on the grid on that occasion. For the one-lap qualifying effort, Renault removed the heat exchangers and waste gates on their V6 motors to reach maximum boost pressure and power. In this scary qualifying trim, the small 1.5-litre V6 was capable of producing the monstruous power of 1200 bhp!
Listen to the rear wheels of the Lotus spnning under such amazing power.
Turbo engines will be back in Formula 1 in 2014.
