The Canadian Touring Championship was racing at ICAR last weekend as the Grand Prix of Mirabel went on for three days of excitement.
Andrew Wojteczko overcame all difficulties to win both races of the CCTCC Super Touring Class. Étienne Borgeat and Greg Pootmans completed the podium Saturday. Pootmans had started from the pole, but a wide first turn put him seventh at the start. He was able to come back to third, a good result in these conditions. Montrealer Nick Wittmer finished fourth. In Touring, polesitter Alain Lauzière won the race in front of Nigel Heron and Anthony Rapone Saturday. Rapone took back what he had left to Lauzière on Sunday however as they switched places on the podium. Rapone and Heron’s epic battle for the lead on Sunday will remain as one of the closest and cleanest in the series history. Wojteczko also won Sunday’s event in Super Touring. Borgeat was less lucky and had to retire from mechanical problems after only one lap. His teammate Greg Pootmans finished second and Paul Dalla Lana completed the podium. Former Formula 1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve was in Mirabel all weekend long for the great pleasure of his many fans. The drivers were also happy to see him give the trophies. The next event for the CCTCC will take place from July 10th to July 12th at the GP Indy Toronto.
