Even if Lewis Hamilton leaves Mercedes at the end of 2015, there is no chance for Fernando Alonso to join the Brackley team.
There were rumours the Spaniard considered his 2015 season with McLaren as merely a gap year, after which he would jump ship to dominant Mercedes. That's why drivers sometimes include performance clauses in their contract, as it allows them to walk away if the car is not fast enough. According to Britain's BBC, though, Alonso is "locked into his new McLaren deal". "No McLaren driver has ever had performance clauses in his contract and that's the case with Fernando," McLaren chairman Ron Dennis confirmed. Hamilton is in the last year of his initial Mercedes deal, and both parties are reportedly looking for an extension. But Hamilton's salary demands seem to be slowing negociations down.
