Winter testing ahead of the 2015 F1 season is now over.
Valtteri Bottas (Williams FW37) recorded the fastest time of all Sunday, but could not beat Nico Rosberg's (Mercedes W06) from Friday, which stands as the benchmark of the week.
On Sunday however, Rosberg had to settle for only the seventh fastest time – or third slowest – only ahead of Jenson Button (McLaren MP4-30) and Pastor Maldonado (Lotus E23). This is to say McLaren's problems continued, as Button suffered through a power unit change. But the team is staying positive.
"Even if it's likely to be a difficult start to the season, we know we can develop hard and fast, and that we'll surely unlock the huge potential that lies within the McLaren-Honda MP4-30," commented Eric Boullier. At Lotus, Maldonado's running was disrupted by brake problems, which sent him in the barriers at turn 4.
"I was able to brake and slow, just not as much as the maximum otherwise possible," explained the Venezuelan. "The car was not too badly damaged and I am fine, so we can look to the positive that we have a lot of information to take the car in the right direction." The season kicks off in Melbourne, two weeks from now.
