The spectacular Montreal Supercross took place tonight in Olympic Stadium downtown Montreal in front of a 44 621 spectators. It was a night filled with emotions as five-time Canadian Supercross champion, Jean-Sebastien Roy contested his last pro race in career.
In the KTM Mini Star series, Sam-Alexander Gaynor captured victory in front of Nathan Cryer.
"JSR" started his day with a not-so-great 12th place in qualifying, 27.3 seconds down to the winner of his heat, Jeff Gibson. That forced Roy, 34, to attempt to make the finale by running in the Last Chance race. Roy easily won that race, taking a spot for the finale. Moments after he received the chequered, a short ceremony highlighted the career of the rider, and the crowd gave him a hair-rising, spectacular stand-up ovation. Tyler Medaglia of Kemptville, Ontario captured victory in the MX2 finale. The ATV race was hotly disputed and a narrow margin of just 7/10ths of a second separated the winner, Pat Brown from Greg Gee. Young Frenchman Thomas Pagès dominated the Freestyle contest with a series of stunning and dazzling jumps, especially his daring back flips!
In the Autocross category, Daniel Gagné won the race in front of two other Quebecers, Marco Martin and Luc Bilodeau. The best was left for the end of the show. Jean-Sebastien Roy, in his last pro race and in front of his fans, immediately control of the race and never look behind him. He dominated the 15-lap MX1 finale and won the feature race in front of Michael Willard and Jason Thomas. Photos: Philippe Champoux
