The Venturi Buckeye Bullet 2, nicknamed "La Jamais Contente" in tribute to the first vehicle to go faster than 60 mph (100 km/h) in 1899, established a record for a Hydrogen Fuel Cell Streamliner in Bonneville Salt Flats in September 2009.
This ground-breaking vehicle is designed and built entirely by Ohio State University students with the guidance and support of OSU faculty and industry sponsors. Venturi is a Monaco-based car manufacturer that designs and builds everyday, street going electric vehicules.
At the end of September, the world's first hydrogen fuel cell powered land speed streamliner set a speed of 303.025 mph for the flying kilometre and 302.877 mph for the fling mile (subject to FIA homologation). The Venturi Buckeye Bullet 2 program is taking land speed racing to a new level with innovations in driver safety, driveline, electronics and packaging. The vehicle is the first of the next generation of land speed racing cars. It is powered by a custom made 700+ horsepower electric motor fuelled by onboard hydrogen and oxygen reservoirs.
